Since lawn cutting has started up again for this spring and summer, a friendly reminder that weedwackers can really do some damage to you. This is a picture from last year!

When I saw the topic "WEEDWACKERS" I thought someone had gone and crafted a pen out of a weed wacker. You never know what someone is going to come up with next on this site.

I may look goofy but I wear long pants and closed toe shoes when I do yard work. It is hot and uncomfortable but it is safe way to do it. It is no goofier than the face shield, half mask hepa filter, and ear plugs I wear when I'm turning pens.

So now we know that you and weedwackers don't get along as well as you and bandsaws. Just a suggestion stay away from the table saw.;)

Concrete floors and pocket knives don't like me either!

methinks your parents should invest in a bubble to keep you out of danger.

I have never done that (well not yet anyway), but, I do wear a full face shield now when I use mine. Have you ever hit fresh dog poop with a weed eater, with no face shield on???!!![xx(][xx(][xx(]

Great photo of what one can expect when fighting fire ants that are carrying pocket switchblades. As others have suggested it appears to me that it would be most prudent for you to definitely stay away from table saws, and maybe joiners as well.

Just wait till that cord 'autofeeds' and it then wraps around your leg - or worse yet, the wife's favorite flower.

In all honesty I would say that you got hurt a little bit. I have worked cases where folks were seriously injured - some down to the bone - by these corded weed eaters. The cord is VERY prone to breaking off and impaling the operator in the leg or groin area. Some have even lost an eye or been impaled in the throat or stomach. [xx(]

I myself use one but have replaced the cord with a soft metal blade. It is quite dangerous like the cord is, but one has better control and no unexpected auto-feeding of the cord. Being soft metal the edge works down and is then replaced. :)
