I found a site called "penmakingsupplies" dot com, which looked interesting.

Always interested in who's who, I tried to find ownership, hit contact us, came up as a domain of "steebar".

I think the best consumer is an informed consumer, so I will not comment further, about this---just posting a notice.

Here's what we know about penmakingsupplies.com:

Ed, for the uneducated ( like me :)) is "steeebar" something ( someone??) to be avoided?

I am a vendor, I don't want to spew "sour grapes", so I will hope others will enlighten the newer members.

(OR search "steebar" or "steelbar" (popular misspelling) in the IAP database-----fascinating reading)

Now I get it....searched the name...safe to say alot of unhappy folks....thanks for the heads up Ed...I have visited their site several times but luckily did not buy anything

Anyone notice that one of their domains is PenTurners.org ? Did Jeff not cover all the bases when he set up the domain here ? ......Nevermind !!!!

Ok I'm confused , that wiki reference lists related domains to steebar including this site and severasl others including yahoo .

where you getting that Butch???? the web isn't case sensative and we are currently on penturners.org. Or did you mean penturners.com?

In Lou's post there is a wiki reference and if you goto that wiki there is a list of related domains . It correctly states the we are who we are but it still lists us in that list .

Guys, this info has nothing to do with who owns and runs that website. If you look up any domain names that I own, you will get "1 and 1" as the registrar because that who hosts my sites and who registered the domains for me. This website might still be something to avoid, but saying that because of the registrar is not really fair.

After further research, I was wrong. I thought Steebar was just the name of the hosting company and didn't want someone else to get a bad rap because their host had one.

I can tell you from a search from the NJBBB Steebar has a number of complaints against them .
As for my earlier post , as I said "I'm confused" ... just ask my wife :biggrin:

My initial concern came from the fact that I clicked on "contact us" and the contact was something at steebar.

This leads me to the conclusion they are related to steebar.

Hasty??? Maybe, but I'll stick with it, until proven otherwise.

No, I think you are correct. I thought that Steebar was just the hosting company, but I was wrong.

Looks like some things never change . I just went to the BBB and checked out Steebar , they have 70 complaints in the last 36 months 10 were resolved 60 were not even responded to .

Finally, something good in this whole sordid tale! Everybody say it with me now . . .

RABEETS!

Now, didn't that feel good?

Scott.

Ed is right! They even link out to Steelbar from the penmakingsupplies page.

What won't somebody just come right out and say "These guys are crooks... or at least a company that you don't want to do business with"

Have we gotten this PC here?

I think they had a booth at the most recent Woodworking show in NJ this past Feb. I am quite sure the guys business card said "Steebar" -- He appeared to have a lot of PSI products.

If you do the search of IAP and trust the reactions of most of our members, you will find that the 2nd half of your statement has been said before. Ed is sharing a new piece of information that I think many would be grateful about, but he also is doing it in a nice way (PC if you must)... As a vendor, if he directly told you that about a direct competitor, would you believe it or assume he has bad intentions.

Thats why he is leaving it up to you to decide... You can hit the little search link - read the reviews of both companies (steebar and exotics) or any other pen part supplier and make up you own mind.

Although Dean is a friend, so I AM biased, I still say he is "Not just another pretty face!!":biggrin:

Actually, Andy, I was asked to look at the website mentioned by one of my suppliers. They had requested information. I was impressed with the layout and recognized SOME of the products as PSI, but they seemed legit. So, I was really answering a question when I looked at "contact us".

"Floored" me.

Then, add Lou's input---Steebar uses over 70 different websites-----YIKES!!!!

Caveat Emptor takes on a WHOLE NEW dimension!!

I have heard rumor that a few folks would like to have a "private discussion" with the owner. Tickets will sell fast.
