Just wanted to post the site I have just finished for the residential irrigation business I will be starting in a few weeks. I am NOT a web designer, so don't expect perfect, but I am hoping that the site will convey a sense of simplicity and professionalism. Your feedback is appreciated, on both the construction and the content.

By the way, I do know that there needs to be a little more graphical interest. That will come, but for now I need functional but still professional.

Thanks!

Well THAT is embarrassing... I put a link to the wrong site! That other one is not my company and is in a different state... lol :D

Try again, it sends you to the right place now ;)

My comment would be...why a fireman? I think I know the answer, but I'd keep looking for another graphic. Seems a little confusing.
Maybe some sprinkler heads popping up out of the name, spraying water.

I think it looks great Joel, very informative.

BTW, My brother's name is Joel and he has been doing sprinklers and landscaping for 25 years. Good Luck with your venture.

Looking good.

On your logo...it is cute but most might miss the single water drop (economy/saving water?). I am traditional and 3 appeal more to me (maybe to others too).

I agree that some pictures will help deliver your message better.

Start building picture portfolio of jobs you've done too. Before and after pictures (even not in your site) is great. The before pics are better if the are really in bad state :D LOL. The after would be nice after the benefit is apparent, a month or so after the installation.

Testimonials will be beneficial too since you are establishing.

Good luck!!!

Please take this in a positive tone, but I didn't spend any time on the site. Your home page starts talking about YOU and YOUR business not ME and MY needs. When I am looking for a product or service, the first thing I want to hear is how MY needs will be met. If you hook me there, I will go deeper into the site.

Hey Lou,
On the home page, I have a brief section telling about me and my business, yes - and directly underneath that section is about you and your needs, then how me and my business meets your needs. Could you be more specific as to what you would like to see in that area? Maybe creating a new "home" page that would give a brief synopsis of how I can meet your specific needs?

Joel,

In general I think the site looks informative and professional.

As a homeowner, I have to admit, I've never considered "residential irrigation". I have, however, had a sprinkler system installed. Obviously, they are the same thing, but I think it is important to lead with the terms your customers are likely to use. I may be the odd man out -- maybe most people do think about residential irrigation systems. If I were searching, however, I'd search for "sprinkler systems" and I'd be more likely to take the time to read your page if that were the most prominent thing I saw when I first got there...

At first glance, I'd think your page is more relevant to farmers that need to irrigate their fields and might not continue reading to discover that you are a are a dedicated *residential* irrigation service. What about if, below the banner and above the "About Us" sub head, you had a bold headline with something along the lines of "Your Residential Sprinkler System Specialists".

Just my $0.02. Good luck!

-Barry

Joel - Start with helping me believe you can identify with my needs. If I am interested, I will read about you and your business. Tell me about what you can do to help my lawn, shrubs and trees. Tell me about getting the most out of my water bill. Tell me about beautifying my property. Tell me about resale value. When folks buy a pen from me, it is because they are interested in a pen FIRST. I think you will find that same attitude towards your business. Put you SECOND. (Since you didn't start with ME on your home page, I never read down to see if I was going to be included.)

Barry: No, I do not think you are the odd man out at all. That makes total sense. The reason I did not consider that before is that most of my jobs will likely be word of mouth, with the website as an easy-to-remember reference for people who are already interested to see. But you are right, and I will change some things to make it clear that I install sprinkler systems. That is a really good point.

Lou: I understand what you are saying better now. I think I might try a separate "home" page that will grab the attention by, as you say, giving the benefits right off, with a separate about us page. Thanks for that advice, and I did take it in a positive tone :D

Dario: I plan to get shots of my systems from Charleston this weekend for reference. Unfortunately, I won't have any "before" shots, but I will start doing that when I start here. Good plan. I think it will also be helpful to have a camera on-site in case there is ever any sort of liability issue. As far as the logo - it is a little too late to change since the business cards and magnets are already in the works :D

This advice has been very helpful and I look forward to hearing more - keep it coming!

Joel,
Took a quick look - good Irrigation site - I did skip most of the info on your home page. For rotators look at the PGP much less expensive for the home owner - add the I-25 Stainless model so show the value of the I-20

Hey Bill, thanks. My cost on the I-20 is hardly more than my cost for the PGP, and the features and durability are well worth the little bit of extra. The I-25's are bigger commercial rotors and I won't be using them on residential jobs.

You sound like you know a bit about it, have you worked in the trade?
