Okay, so Netflix says you can watch instantly on a TV using a netflix ready device. One of those devices is a Vizio HD XVT television, which we have. So, I'm trying to figure out how to go about connecting the TV to the net.

It has HDMI inputs galore, and a computer RGB input as well. Now I was expecting an Ethernet connection when I first read to connect it to the net, but was apparently wrong. So does anyone know what I should get to be able to hook it to the net?

I'm now assuming that it needs a cable running from either an ethernet port on the Modem/router to the HDMI on the tv, or something from the computer to the TV.

Anyone have more of a clue?

Ours hooks up to a Roku box that then interacts wirelessly with our wireless router for our computer. We have our box hooked up with the TV with the co-ax cables ( red, yellow, white) then a power cord, nothing else other than the wireless router hook-up. Our TV is an older one, no new fangled TV, so maybe yours is different. Maybe your TV links directly with a wireless router?

Just a thought, hope it helps,

Emerson

I'm not sure about Netflix ready devices but I can watch instantly on my PC. I can also watch through Windows Media Center on my PC. Many video cards will support two Monitors (of which one could be your TV) I have in the past connected mine (at low resolution, analog) using a S-video cable.

you could just hook the pc tower to the tv and then go to netflix to activate the streaming device. On some models wi-fi is built in/then you will need a wireless router and go to netflix to activate device

Mike , I was just at the netflix site and looked up your TV . It's wifi ready , 802.11 dual band . So you will need a wireless network setup on your internet connection .

I bought the cables to hook the laptop to the tv but then found out you can just request a disk from netflix to put in a Wii or Xbox (as long as you sink it to your wifi) and it will allow you to navagate at netflix and play movies. (If you have either of them). Its a lot easier.

already have one for my laptop in the house. So I just need to figure out how to activate the connection.

Thanks.

I got the ROKU digital box.. Regular movies are too great of quality but the HD ones are great.. The only problem I have is, I have to go to netflix and pick what I want to watch from my CPU, then I can watch it.. Mine is hooked up through HDMI cables..

From the manual:
Set up the Internet connection using the initial
Setup App or the Network Menu in the HDTV Settings App. Your HDTV has 802.11n dual-band wireless, so you can connect your TV to the Internet through your wireless home network. Or you can also connect to the Internet by plugging in an Ethernet cable from your Internet connection into the Ethernet port on your HDTV.

Depending on what encription you are using you will have to enter the Key into your TV . There should be a setup menu for wi-fi where you select your network and enter the correct Encription Key . Then goto netflix and activate the TV .

hmmm.... Mine is the SV471XVT and doesn't seem to have it. (Of Course!!!!)

No ethernet port, no HDTV section in the menus. I don't understand why, it's supposed to be an HDTV. At least it says it on the front, and it's definitely an XVT.

http://www.vizio.com/sv471xvt.html ... I looked.. Its definately HD, but it isn't a netflix ready... I'd recommend picking a bluray player that includes netflix if you want (I got a really good samsung for $160).

I'll just get a cable to hook my computer to the TV for now. I have an SVGA and 15pin monitor hook up on my laptop. That and a minipin for the audio should do it.

According to the ads for your model , it don't have wi-fi or ethernet port but it does have a PC port so check your owners manual to see what kind of cable you need .
