Now this is what I call a bee hive! yea..wasps...I call em all bee's. But wow..this doesn't give you the heebeegeebee's, nothing will! That is a quart can beside it. It was bigger than this, the outside was completely surrounded in a paper covering like a huge dome. The unfortunate part is that all the layers are only a 1/2" thick. It's going to be alot of work casting these. I'll have to clean all the crap off the tops, sand the bottoms off each layer to open all the ports and laminate two hive sections together to get good depth, but it's all part of the fun.

Better you eat them before they eat you! BTW, you best hope none of the cap covered cells hatch out during the night!

I had a neighbor that thought it would be cool to show his kids what a HUGH hornets nest (about the size of a volleyball) looked like. He sprayed the outside of the nest with some nasty stuff and killed most of them ... Then he brought the danged evil thing into the kitchen ... SWMBO was out of town or something!

However those that were deep in the nest were only dazed. When they came out of their chemical induced euphoria it was hell to pay in the house for several hours. There were hundreds, thousands, millions of them. I told him they were hiding and breeding more warriors to get their revenge on him. THEY DID TOO!

This nest has been dead for at least 10 yrs. It's been in the barn on the ceiling at my mother in laws house. I just never knew it was a treasure. Over the years, some of the cap has fallen off, but the cell structure has never deteriorated.

That cool Jeff should cut the blanks before cleaning the nest, blanks will be much easy to clean IMHO, post photos of the blanks and pen

It's not so great. The nest is a monster, but I found the layers are only a 1/2" thick at the most. When I grind off the bottom to remove the black stuff, the nest is half as thick, two laminated isn't enough, the alumilite isn't sticking well cause it's so old or waxy or something's up with this nest, I cast one block, tested it and ended up trashing this nest. Eventually another good one will come along.

Looks good Jeff. I lucked out and had the one in my back yard get blown out of the tree top early Feb. Im still waiting to find time to cast and wondering if I should add color. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
