Walking Stick/Cane

Has anyone turner a walking cane? If so did you get a kit and what kind of wood?

We got our kit from CSUSA on a 20% discount deal they had. Paid around $10 for it. The wood we used was DIW (desert iron wood). Pretty straight forward, but it is best to know what size you want the cane first. We did ours as a gift and had to go back and resize it.

Any tips on making it? I am thinking of making that kit for my mother when she gets off the crutches.
