I was looking at the Wagner Control sprayer which is an HVLP sprayer. I was wondering if anyone has one and what you think of it. I am thinking of getting it to spray stain outside on a deck. Cost is about $60.

Don't have any experience with the sprayer you described, but I have purchased several different types of Wagner sprayers. I always took them back as they never performed as anticipated.

I only tried one once and gave right up. For the money, I would suggest the HF pressure pot on sale along with their $39 (on sale) spray gun setup. The spray gun comes with a quart pot, but with the pressure pot, you should just be able to mix the stain and place it in the pot.

Plus, if you try to use a colored stain, the colorants can be pretty heavy at times requiring something that is capable of spraying a paint like latex.

I have been given two Wagners as gifts over the years. I have a very low opinion of them. Noisy, plug up, messy, and take longer than just brushing or rolling. Last time I painted our house (large, two-story with wood lap siding) I bought a "real" airless spray system and was thrilled. Lot of trouble to hook up but it sure pumps some paint, worth every penny if you have a large area to do. Some paint places will rent them, worth renting if this is a once-in-a-while job.

I did the same, bought the wagner and it plugged up ever 2 minutes. Took any hour to paint one small section. We said the heck with it and took it back and bought an airless sprayer and OMG... I finished the whole job in an hour. Never buy a wagner product again.
