I have been given some Black Walnut from a community building project that the builder would like to have made into pens for the families involved. The wood is very dry, don't have a meter, but this stuff is dusty!

Any suggestions for treating before turning? I don't want to shred it when I start cutting.

Thanks for your input,
Jon

If you're scared, you can drizzle on some thin CA to kinda harden things up a bit - but a good sharp gouge that is actually cutting and not scraping will put the least amount of stress on the wood so start with technique :)

thanks for input. I cut some of it into blanks and was very pleased with the condition inside (it was in 2" spindles) and was able to cut nice 1"x1" blanks from the center of the spindles. they should turn fine. He also gave me a 2"x2"x2'teak spindle that looks great.[:D]
