I've had a heck of a day at work, so I need to vent a bit...excuse my venting ahead of time

I have my lathe on craigslist. Exact same ad as I have on here for it. I think I'm being very fair at $350 for all that comes with it considering that to buy it all new it would cost well over $600 for what they are getting? Right?

So this morning I have an email from a guy asking what my low price is. I reply with a message saying that what I have posted is my low price and I think it's a great deal for all that someone would be getting and won't be going any lower. Don't really need to sell it, it can just sit until I'm ready to buy the new lathe I really want. blah blah blah so on and so forth. I thought I was pretty clear on my intentions.

So this afternoon I get an email back from the guy saying that if I would take $50 less he'd come pick it up right now.

Now given the day I've had at work I thought I was very nice by replying and saying Nope! Sorry! ain't gonna happen.

I really wanted to tell him to pound salt and stop being a retard when he knew what the answer was going to be and to go bug someone else, but luckily I didn't feel like typing all that so he just got the nope sorry!

Anyway..thanks for letting me rant. I have had 3 other people interested in the lathe from Craigslist. I guess tomorrow must be payday for these folks. I hope that one of them wants it, and I intend to direct them here so we can add another into the vortex.

Don't worry..I'm not going anywhere, Just waiting for my shoulder problem to sort itself out among other things, then hopefully getting a nice metal lathe, either a 9x20 or an old atlas or something along those lines.

I have a brother-in-law like your emailer -- doesn't matter what price it is, he'll try to get it for lower -- never take it personally -- it's just their nature! BIL actually a nice guy otherwise.

I feel your pain, went through the same thing last month selling my car, already listed it 1k below book and still they wanted it for nothing....

Someone is always gonna try to get a lower price. I sold an old car on Craig's list earlier this year. All I wanted was $500, listed in on CL for $700. Guy offered $650 so I took it. As with our pens you can always come down on the price.

Well the second guy who emailed about came and bought it tonight.

Here's what I love, he never haggled on the price, and he gave me $380 instead of the $350 I was asking .

I told him he didn't have to do that, but he was so nice and insisted! I completed loaded down his Toyota SUV with everything that wasn't nailed down.

Him and his wife are going to spend their free time with my former lathe, and that makes me really happy. They were really nice people, so I directed them to come on over to our little corner of the world here. I hope to see them soon.

John...I would have gladly delivered it to you!

Now to save for the 9x20 lathe that I want to get from Harbor Freight and get started on some ideas I've got kicking in my head for some cool metal pens. Not Bruce Boone cool, but I think they will look awesome when done.

I usually work the other way. I offer a price I know to be fair to both sides of the deal and I usually don't budge from it. It simplifies things and I don't feel like a used car salesman with all the haggling.

I do that with everything I buy or sell. When I bought my last car I researched it, knew what it was worth, what I was willing to pay. I told the sales guy my offer take it or leave it because I'm not haggling.

Good news, then! Glad you got a good buyer.
I really did think about it, but I just spent the better part of 4 days cleaning up recently (long story there!) and I knew I should restrain myself!

You gave somebody a great deal for sure.:)

Congrats on selling the lathe!! A good ending to a crappy day!!

I have been experiencing the same thing with several of the tools I am trying to sell on Craigslist also. Either they lowball you with the initial email or decide to come out and never show up...... What is with these people????

To be fair I buy and sell a lot of tools on Craigslist and very few times have I had lowballers and never a no show. Overall I'm fairly pleased with a totally free site that doesn't moderate to the nth degree.

Now...if I could just say the same thing about work!

We've always had good luck on Craig's list. There have been a few disappointments, but mostly we came out ahead.
