My wife's birthday is on Valentine's Day and I want to make a special pen for her. I will be using the Elegant Sierra kit in Black Ti/Chrome and want to use a blank that is red in color (her favorite). I need some suggestions for materials. So have at it guys & gals.:)

If you're looking for wood, the reddist wood I know is Bloodwood. Redheart is red, but will not stay as red as the Bloodwood. Paduak is also red, but can run to orange.

Woodcraft had an acryllic blank called "Vallentine red" verrrrrrrry red and quite pretty. You might find it with some of the other vendors as well.

I also got a dyed box elder in a red called Merlot that was nice.

this is the pen I did in the Valentine red... you can see how red it is.

Pink Ivory

Redheart

Bloodwood

I have a couple pieces of Choke Cherry that has some great red, pink and beige grain. I think I received these from GreenMtnGuy.

Still time to make it white or Alt ivory and send it out for a lazer-cut red heart.

But that would just make her all "mushy" and kissy and all that stuff --- yeah,

never mind!!

I know that I am new to this forum but I would not suggest bloodwood. I just completed a pen for the 2nd LOML and it was a pain. Thankfully I prepared two because one of them cracked after inserting the tube. (Never happened to me before) Then I had a difficult time with the finish. The finished product was OK but I am a perfectionist.
I would suggest a nice pink acrylic. Sorry, just my 2 cents.

i might be getting some bog pine tomorrow which is supposed to be blood red, leave it with me and i'll pm you tomorrow

Red Tru-Stone with Gold Leaf. Tru-Stone goes very well with Elegant Beauty kits. Richard sells Tru-Stone in the business classified section.

Good luck . . .

Excellent choice dude. My wife's personal pen is the pink madreperlato, and she loves it. My original plan was to sell it, but she accidentally saw it, and it never made it to the sell box. Post us a pic of the red!

Now I still gotta find somebody to turn that gossamer red blank and post a pic so I can see if it's as cool finished as it looks.

Ed: you may have to break out the camera and post a pic of a pen from that blank, or send me one so that I can! :)
