I posted on Craigslist WTB vacuum pump. Got a reply for a AC unit vacuum pump for $35.
Is this a good pump for my purpose? Is it a good buy?

My goal is to stabilize wood and put my worthless wood to good use.

Thanks
Bob

Without the pump specs it's hard to say. There are a couple things to factor in such as the size of your vacuum chamber vs the cfm rating of the pump. If the vacuum chamber is a converted pressure pot or similar in size you should be ok with about a 2.5 cfm or higher.

You can get one at HF for 15 bucks. Search the archives for the tutorials, there has been tons written about this.

Personally, I'd be a bit skeptical of an electric pump for 35 bucks. My guess is it's best days are behind it. I've seen the good ones new go for a few hundred bucks. But, hey, I've seen steals on CL before too.
