I used a filter/trap used for air compressor lines, from Lowes I think. Just remember the flow direction is TOWARD the vacuum pump as opposed to out from a compressor. I plumbed mine directly to the vacuum pump as I use it for other things, vacuum chucking for lathe and vacuum hold-down for my CNC router.
I use a gas filter in the line, but another thing that works well is to leave your vacuum hose hang down below your vacuum pump with a bow in it.
What this does is trap any stabilizing fluid down in the bow and allow the vacuum to bubble by it. Then when you're done lift the hose, pouring the stabilizing fluid back into the vacuum chamber.
I use a canning jar in between my chamber and pump. An inlet and outlet is connected to the lid via brass push on fittings that are epoxied in place. This will catch any CJ that makes it through.
