Hi all,

My first post on the IAP forum... :embarrassed::peace:

I'm rather new to woodworking and turning - less then a year actually, and i've got a lot plenty to learn in all areas including finishes.

Among the timbers i have been using so far, a few have dramatically changed color after i finished the pieces, sometime for the better (golden chain for instance), but most of the time not (pink ivory, padouk, purplehearth...). My understanding is that it is mainly caused by exposure to UV.

I believe some finishes do block UV rays, others don't... Is that right, and which are which?

Thank you for your help.

Thanks greggas, i'll try to find that brand in my area, but i'm not too optimistic as i could not even find a reseller in Europe on their website. However, this did put me on the trail of marine oil and finishes which all claim to protect from UV - how good they are remains to be seen though.

Did anybody else tackled this discoloration issue?
