I just received my PITH from Kevin Young (Kev). I was in sticker shock  when I saw the postage he paid to ship a small box from Victoria, Australia.

He paid nearly $35AU. Even with the exchange rate, that is still over $30US. (Wonder if it had anything to do with traveling uphill?)

Guess I need to be a little less critical about our postage rates. Rates for USPS flat rate boxes are tough to beat, even internationally.

Sounds similar to Canada Post to here (USA). I have a source for as much burl as I want from Nova Scotia but the problem is shipping. Would cost me well north of $40 to send me a package. Which is not bad considering it's free but it is also sight unseen so not sure what I would be getting.

The worst part about our Canadian postal service is that it cost as much to ship inside Canadian border than to Us ! Go figure.

I wouldn't complain too much about the US postal costs. You guys are getting a great deal. As noted above by Alfred the cost to mail something within Canada is high. For example, I just mailed out one 30-06 cartridge pen (weight including the box was 155 grams) at a cost of $9.88, and that includes a business account discount.

I would say it costs more. I was in Calgary on business a few years ago and I brought a bottle stopper with me that I wanted to send to a buddy in Carleton Place(Ottawa area). I figured it should be cheaper to mail within Canada right? No such luck. Because the envelope wouldn't fit through a template slot (due to the bulge in the middle from the stopper) they were going to charge me somewhere around 16 bucks to mail it. Well needless to say I refused, brought it home(getting it through security in the Calgary airport was a whole other story), and mailed it from Houston for about 5 or 6 bucks.

Talk to my competition

He needs to talk to somebody...one of my competitos ships about 8 ounces to the us for not much more than it costs me.

Australian postage is expensive

Postage from Australia to Singapore is higher than from USA although Singapore is closer to Australia. I order all my pen parts from USA. Unable to figure this out.
