ANSWER IS NO. It is ok if it has just a tiny hint of amber in either A or B, but it is not ok if it looks like urine. Contact Alumilite for replacement details if this also happens to you. A clear cast test blank looks like old yellowing vinyl tubing. Smells like paint thinner too. Don't know if I'll ever know what happened, but Mike is going to take care of it..as if I didn't know he would..they are a stand up company of course. Anyone can make a mistake, I just want to let you know about the outcome of this post after having contacted the source and then running a test blank to confirm.

I am low on Alumilite CC, so I opened up a couple new 5 gallon boxes. I can't call them being it's Sunday and I really need to use the product but first I need to know if the part A is supposed to be Amber colored? I never saw it that way before. I have been using CC and it has been totally clear in both A and B. Maybe they changed the formula a touch so that you can see more clearly if it is thoroughly mixed? If so, will it still become totally clear if cast with no color?

The clear I have is clear in both a and b, in the crystal clear I have, the a is clear and the b is slightly yellow, not much but enough difference that you can easily tell a from b by looking. If you look at Alumilites page where it shows the crystal clear you can see the slight difference.

The white on the other hand has a clear part a and a very yellow part b. I wonder if you got a set of white by accident? Take a teaspoon of a and b and mix in a cup, you'll have your answer in a few minutes.

Edit: On their website you can pull up the MSDS in a pdf file http://www.alumilite.com/MSDS/Amazing%20Crystal%20Clear%20A&B.pdf and it describes part b as "translucent yellow" in color so you're good to go.

Jeff,

We recently bought our first Alumilite CC and the A part has a very light amber tint to it. I was concerned until I did a small mix of the clear with no dye added and it cured perfectly clear.

It seems like a very dark amber tint, but that's probably because I have such a large quantity. Thanks for letting me know it's ok. It never came with a tint before, must be a new feature.

Yep, mine has a tint to it as well..

Got a new 2 gallon delivered Friday.. opened the box up and the top of the lid was all broke but it at least the seal wasnt broken

I cant wait to stock up on it when I travel to the states next.. by the time I pay $46 for shipping and another $50+ for customs, it adds up :frown:

BTW...the test blank did set up perfect. It is just a little aged looking. I would think that if you had a batch with the heavy ambering and you were not going to cast anything clear, then you won't have any issues at all. I can't guarantee that, because I did not try casting a colored one and spinning it to see how it polishes. Assuming that the polishing aspect isn't affected, I would not expect any issues if you color it, only if you leave it clear. Unfortunately, I need to cast some clear, and it would be good if someone sent it back for testing, so might as well be me since I am likely the closest to the source.
