My company is maintaining a building for an owner and they want us to use vendors that are unionized. Is there a place one can go to find a list of companies that are unionized.

I can't help you but that does remind me of something funny that happened to me once.

I am from Oklahoma, and down here, there aren't really any Unions to speak of. When i was growing up installing floor covering with my dad, He would always crack a joke on the customers. He would wait until we got all the old material piled in the driveway, and furniture everywhere, garage, yard, Kitchen, wherever... Then he would look up at the customer and say "Allright, we are union so we are going home now, we will see you next Tuesday." Of course we would not leave until the job was done, but it was always funny to see their face when he said this.

THEN I grew up, and continued the joke in my floor covering installations. That is, until i went to Chicago for a while to work. I cracked hat joke one time. I will not repeat what the customer said to me, but just imagine it was not good. Evidently Unions are a big deal in Chicago...

and I think even jokingly claiming to be union when you aren't can get you in trouble in some areas.

I don't like unions. They've outlived their usefulness in my opinion. My most recent interaction was working with a union hotel on an event. We wanted to go with a non-union av company as the union av people attached to the hotel were down right idiots and couldn't offer what we needed. They wanted to charge us a surcharge to go with the non-union guys. basically black-mail f you ask me.

I would love to tell you about how I feel about Unions but this is a family forum. Lets just say the best job I ever had was destroyed by a Union.:mad-tongue::angry::bad::bad::bad::bad:

I think this is one of those topics that better not get started. Because this one could lead to some unpleasantryies and being a Union man and proud of it. Let it go.

Those of us who aren't union may be just as proud but I too agree that this subject shouldn't be discussed...too many deep feelings both ways. I would suggest that a mod lock this thread.
Do a good turn daily!

I have to agree with John on this one. I am a Union Steward and proud of it too.
