How can I keep the black color of TX Ebony?

I have some (a lot actually) and noticed that the cut pieces tend to go lighter in time. They are jet black (which I like) when freshly milled but later turns brownish in color.

Any ideas/tips?

Very interesting observation. Most woods go darker with time. Suggest you experiment with the old ebonizing technique of fine steel wool in vinegar. Let set for a week or two the rub on the wood. (caution: only fill your jar about 3/4 full, this stuff has a nasty habit of 'creeping' and getting on the shelf where it is setting. My turning tools are now sorta 'blued' from this and my steel shelf is nasty rusty. [xx(] )

Frank,

Thanks, I thought of that but wanted to try something else if possible. I have some 2 tone I wanted to keep if possible but would do the ebonizing if nothing else comes up.

I appreciate the help.
