First, I am about to make my first casting, using silmar 41 and sierra tube in casting molds, bought from Fred Wissen.

Since the best option is to waste as little as possible, does anyone have any idea as to how much of the resin I will need?

Also, what do you use to measure how much you pour? I can try using the measuring cups from the kitchen, but have a feeling that I would not survive my wife discovering it.....:)

Put your tubes in the mold and fill the mold with water. Pour the water into the (hopefully clear) container you will use to mix the PR. Make a mark on the outside of the container. Fill the container to a little more than the mark with resin (you never get all the resin from the container to the mold, so give yourself a little extra). Of course, you need to wait until your mold is dry.

Alternatively, you can buy graduated mixing cups at US Composites (or lots of other places).

OR you can buy a bag of #5 recycle code clear plastic glass and make your own graduated 1oz marks on pne as a master. Add 1 0z of water mark it, add another oz, mark it. Etc. THen when you need to, transfer the marks across to the cups as you need them
