Impatience, drilling before the woodglue hardened.
But the effect is "cool"
Penkit 177 from penkitsmall.
Beech and a darker veneer glued together with a piece of yew.
Cut into strips 45 degrees and glued together with a dak veneer 2 by 2.
made a jig for 72 degrees sanding and again dark veneer and some glue to put all 5 together.
Turned a nylon rope around many times as a clamp.
Then turned round between centers very carefull!
In the chuck and drilled a 9.5 mm hole but the drill had some resistence.
Then on a mandrell turned the blank to the needed size.
Here the 790 pieces of wood with ca finish.
