After ONLY 8 months, I have a bad bearing on my Delta midi headstock. To make matters worse, Delta's out of stock. Gonna take it to the Delta repair center here in Mlilwaukee and see if they can help. I sure expected more than 8 months out of something with the Delta name.:frown:

Guess I have time to clean the shop now, maybe I'll find the tablesaw I lost down there:biggrin:.

Hold off

Hold off taking to Delta repair. I have replaced bearings on my Midi several times. I went to a local bearing supply house and they supplied me with bearings. I am sure there is a bearing supply house in your area. Replacing the bearings is a quick and simple process.

You can't always blame Delta for something like that. They buy the bearings in bulk from a supplier. It's the maker of the bearing that is mainly at fault. But when replacing it, make sure you get a good brand & not on of those foreign cheapies. Make sure they're pressed in perfectly straight & seated properly.

Maybe, but wouldn't it be better to replace them yourself with better quality bearings than them putting in another set of cheap ones? Just a thought. :)

I agree with Steve, Bearing supply houses will be able to supply you with higher quality bearings than the origianal and you can be up and running the same day. You would be ahead by not using the warranty.

Ok,
Wasn't the bearings, was the main shaft, part will be due in from factory DECEMBER 5TH!!!!:eek::eek:
They are refunding my full purchase price:biggrin::biggrin:
Time to go shopping.

Someone recently posted about a similar problem with a JET mini. Stuff happens on occasion and nobody's QC is 100% perfect. I don't think this reflect on the quality of Delta tools in general and certainly does seem to be a big thumbs up for their customer service.

I have never seen the Delta in person; but it sure looks like changing the belts on the Delta is a whole lot simpler than on my JET mini!! I got a special deal on my 1014; but if I were looking at paying full retail for a new lathe and having to choose between the Jet and the Delta, I would give the Delta a real close look.
