I have been watching this big guy around my house this spring. This picture was taken through a very dirty window and screen.(sorry) About 10' from my back door. BTW I live on 22 acres next to the paulding forest (WMA) about 24000 acres. Pretty cool the animals I see.

That's Cool Don---we live next to a WMA also.
Just watching the wildlife can become a great way to spent the day.
Of course it also helps keeping food in the frezzer also.

Funny that you brought up this subject.

Last weekend, I was sitting upstairs in our split level house and started hearing this tap, tap, tapping.

I called out to my hubby to ask him what he was doing - I figured he was tinkering with something. He wasn't so we started looking around and when I opened one of the upstairs windows, not 1 but 2 of those bad boys ran out of the landscaping below the window.

They had seen their reflection in a downstairs window and decided to get to know their new "friends".

We laughed so hard. Never even thought to grab a camera.

The town we live in is part of a bird sancutary so we see all kinds of birds around here.

There's about 20 of them that come up in my back yard every morning.
They have a route. They feed across the street first, them come over to my
yard and peck the grass for a half hour. Then they move up the hill to the
next house.
They're used to me now. They used to scatter at the sight of people, but
now they know I'll stop the car and wait while they cross the street. A few
will stop and wait for me to go by, but a few will stand in the middle of the
road and stare me down until I get tired and start moving toward them.

Great looking Tom. I have a few birds behind my house in the creek bottom. Of course I usually hear them after spending a day in the timber hunting (unsuccessfully) but that is part of the game. Here in IL, we seem to shoot as many coyotes as we do turkey. Heres what I get out my back window. They really like the acorns and the GARDEN.
