Yesterday I helped a member of my local woodworkers club fell a couple of hackberry trees that were crowding other trees. I came home with with a pickup load of hackberry and other species. My friend gave me a stash of yellow wood logs (smoketree), some sizable grapevine sections, three box elder logs and two large blocks of air dried honey locus. The hackberry is snow white but will obtain interesting colors if I can successfully spalt it.

man, that's some nice wood there... you can make a lot of cool stuff with that. i don't know if you do flatwork or not but i think it would be cool to mill one (or two) of the larger grapevine sections and make a decorative box or something... just an idea.

have fun. [:)]

Louis, you will really like the smoke tree, turns really nice very hard and finishes well. The grape vine, if it is any thing like muscadine (wild grape) will turn also however takes a little effort with extra sanding to get good finish. BTW good gloat.
