Can someone help me with this. Jeff?
I came to talk and post yesterday and I wasn't logged in. So I tried to log in and this is what it did.
At the top of the page is the login boxes, I entered my info and clicked "Go". It goes to the temporary page that says "you have successfully logged in, please wait and you will,,,,,,,,,,,etc. Then it goes to the main topic page, "but" at the top of the page instead of saying "hello Steve's" it shows me I am not logged in. At this time, I cant enter any ones profiles and don't have the quick reply link at the bottom of topic. I also have to enter my name and password every time I try to post a reply or new topic.

Someone please help.

Sorry, I cant edit without being logged in.

Just wanted to mention, haven't changed anything on the computer in the last few days, or weeks for that matter.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry not much help.. But I am having no problems.. I am on my work computer and have no problems.. I read this last night from my home computer and have no problems.. It really sounds like it is on your end.. Try another computer and see if it stays logged in.. If it does then yo have narrowed it down to your computer.. Good luck..

Steve, sorry you're having a problem. You've cleared your cookies, how about your cache? Do you have a firewall trying to keep you safe from cookies? That's generally the problem.

Jeff,
I'm stumped. I cleared my cookies, cleaned my Cache, turned off my fire wall and tried, turned off my security and tried. I don't know that much about programming and the such. I have a Son who takes care of things for me. He is in Oregon, 1,200 miles away.

Nothing has changed, I tried to post after work yesterday and sense then, I cant get logged in permanently. I have to enter name and password to post this reply.

What Browser are you using? Safari on some Macs is very persnickety with a few forum softwares that are not using certain protocols. They exhibit a problem very similar to this.

If you ARE using Safari, here are some links to the problems:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/bugs36.php?do=view&bugid=1116

ALSO, I have a work around that I used on another forum that would not let me stay logged on. If this is your problem, let me know and I will post the work-around. It is a little complicated but it worked for me on the other forum.

I'm using Windows XP and internet explorer.

I have tried everything!!!!!!
Turned Norton systomworks completely off!
Firewall off,
Virus protection off,
Can someone please Help Me?
Is there some thing I did or can do on the web site level?
I am having no problem on any other site I log in to.

Steve,

This sounds just like a cookie problem to me. Yes, I know you cleared your cookies, but I think the problem is that your browser is not accepting NEW cookies. So if you would indulge me for a bit, please try this:
(for IE7, should be similar for other versions)

Goto Tools | Internet Options
Select the Privacy Tab
Click the Advanced button

Is the Override automatic cookie handling checkbox set?

For the purpose of this test, go ahead and check it if it isn't already,
and make sure the accept radio buttons are set.

Also put a check in the always allow session cookies box.

That should do it. If everything is as described and you still can't log in, then I'm stumped.

Hope this helps,

I tried it Ron, everything you said, just like you said to and it didn't help.
I may have to re-register, I am stumped.

Any other ideas? Please!!

I don't want to loose my profile and counts and stares and everything.

Jeff, or whoever is watching the house. I registered under the user name "steveturnspens" to find out if it will let me fix this log in problem. I only want this second registration for this test. You can delete it as soon as I figure out if it helps. I don't know your policy on double reg. I just want you to know what I'm doing, so you don't think I'm being deceptive.

"I Do Not Want To Loose" my original registration if I find this does something for me. Sorry, I'm not yelling at anyone.

I just want to be able to log in and BS with everyone.

Thanks.

Steve,

I wonder if system restore would do any good? Pick a restore point from a date that you know you did not have a problem and see if it does anything. I have had my computer do stupid stuff before I could not figure out the problem. I did a system restore and it fixed the issue. It would not hurt anything and would be worth a try.

Thanks Curtis, I tried to restore, but it wont do it. I renewed my Semantic/Norton virus protection and fire wall "tonight" and now it wont do it. Thanks anyway.

Steve download firefox. What can it hurt, i have been using it for a couple years and love it and the add-ons.

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Its free and at this point what can it hurt.

It may come to that Tom. The bummer is, everything else is working fine. I just cant log in here at IAP.

I will try a little while longer. We'll see.

Thanks for the sugg. Tom.

Thanks for the sugg. Tom.

It's possible I'm missing something.

If you can't log on, how are you posting these messages?

Ron, I think he means he has to "log on" on every time he wants to post. Sorry your having a problem Steve, wish I could help but know next to nothing about this kind of stuff.

Steve, I have had serious problems using Norton. My computer had a mind of it's own. It did strange things. I got rid of Norton and lost my problems. I now use Panda and it is great.
Ellis

Thanks Ron, you answered a question for me. I was worried about book marks. I have about 200 of them and didn't want to move them by hand.

And thanks Ellis, I'll look into that. I'll ask my personal computer programmer and repair tech. Better known as my Son. Problem is, he's in Oregon and I'm 1,200 miles away.

I talked to Jeff this morning and he confirmed that everything on his end is functioning properly, so it's in my software somewhere.

You know, I haven't been all that happy with the new windows IE version 7 anyway. Have been having problems since I downloaded it.

Problem solved. Downloaded Firefox. Worked like a charm. Transfered everything. Loggin perfect.

Thanks Tom, and thanks everyone for all your help.
And especially Jeff. Impressive service, thanks again.
I'll update later, I'm just home for lunch. I'll be home later to play with the new browser.

Steve you will need to download some add-ons for firefox. There are occasionally some pages that it will not open and I still have to go to IE.

If you have any questions email me and we can talk on phone.

OK Tom, I'll play with it for a while and let you know when I need help.

My first question will be, what are add ons and which ones would I need?

I'll send you a PM.

Thanks Ron, got a few in so far. #126 wont work, says corrupted download. Must be problem with their system. The rest went in fine.

Where do I find a good spell check "and" correcter? This one shows me what I did wrong, but how do I make it correct my mistakes. Of which there will be many.

BTW, good to see your troubles went away. I made the switch to Firefox shortly after IE7 came out and I haven't looked back (well.... ever so rarely there is a page that doesn't work so I have to use IE. [V])

I was about sick of IE7 too. Too many glitches. Need to find the checker I was using in IE. I spose I'll get used to this one.

So far, it's going OK, I like it.

My favorite part is tabbed browsing. I just click a link with my roller ball and it opens up in a new tab. I can keep looking at the page I am on until I want to switch to that new tab or I can right click and open a new window. IE7 started doing that but when I try it on my parents computer its glitchy.

You can play with your background themes, I use the walnut for firefox. I also have a script blocker that I like, most of these you can get off the add-on site for firefox. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
