There are 3 blanks waiting for the winner of this contest. 2 of "The Original Prickly Pear Cactus" pen blanks (your choice of colors) and one resign filled wood blank, all generously donated by Curtis O. Seebeck aka Mesquite Man. They are outta this world gorgeous!!!

Good luck!

Here is a picture of the resin filled blank that I have in mind. It is MescalBean root that had a lot of voids so it was pressure cast with gold swirl resin! Mescalbean is a local Central Texas bush and is not available anywhere commercially.

Good morning people! There were 4 people who answered the Trivia question correct, congratulations guys. I asked LOML to pick a number between 1 & 4, drum roll please....

James Gillespie aka Draken is this months winner, congratulations James.

Thanks to everyone who played.

Have a great day everyone[:D]

Draken, please send your snail mail to Curtis - aka Mesquiteman to claim your prize. And again, congrats!

Draken,

I've seen and have a sample of Curtis' mescalbean casted blank and you are in for a treat! [^] It is gorgeous and turns so wonderful. One thing you should know...it is very oily and clogs sandpaper fast! As I posted earlier...this wood is the first that I've considered leaving un-finished because it finishes so well with just MM (I still finished mine though).

CONGRATS!!!

As posted in the other thread:
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Thank you Becca and Curtis! I've been drooling over those cactus blanks for a long time now, so I'm really looking forward to those. Great trivia question Becca, it took me quite some time to track down the answer this time. Google didn't do it for me this time, had to use my backup. Now, where's the happy dance smilie icon?

That Mescalbean casted blank looks great as well! Thanks for the pointers Dario. What do you finish them with? I think I'll try Enduro unless someone gives me reason not to...

And Curtis, I'll send you a PM as soon as I dig up the thread on your cactus blanks to remind myself of the color choices.

Thanks again to Becca and Curtis for this! [:)]

I know this may sound like sour grapes but it isn't. As a wood species collector I can't accept the answer as being Juglans, however. There are at least three other species of Juglans (californica, microcarpa, and major) that grow in the United States. I still stand behind my answer of Carpinus (or Hornbeam) as there is only one species native to the US, two to Europe and many to Asia.
Again I'm not looking to create trouble but wood collecting is something I take pretty seriously. Bob Ireland
