Hi Everybody!

I haven't been around much this summer. I mentioned here early on that my Wife was having surgery on her neck to fuse four levels in her spine. That happened on June 1st, and really, it has gone very well! I got to be the main cook, bottle-washer and general gofer as she recuperated. She started back to work full time this past Wednesday, and her recuperation is going so well the doctor won't need to see her until the one year anniversary date.

My Dad, age 92, has lived with us the past fifteen years. In mid-June he started to go downhill, spent four days in the hospital around Independence Day, and we had the ambulance out four times through July. He is a tough old bugger, so this didn't kill him, but it took it's toll, and on Monday of this week we checked him into the State Veteran's Home in the city where I work. So far he seems to be doing good, just unhappy about conforming to their rules.

So I have been absent a lot lately, which is kind of weird since the IAP is very much a part of my life, and many of you are, in a very real way, my best friends! I thought I'd take the chance to say that things are starting to calm down a bit now, and I may be able to start posting more. Thanks for keeping the heat up and the lights on while I was gone! ;-)

One comment about the Veteran's Home. How long has it been since the government came in just in the nick of time and done something really nice for you? In May of this year, a new Federal law went into effect that requires the VA to pay all of the expenses for housing and medical needs for Veterans who are from 70% to 100% disabled by the VA and living at a state-run Veterans Home. This means we don't have to worry about how to pay all the little incremental stuff needed to maintain him in the nursing home. Instead I can concentrate on doing things for my Dad that makes him happy and more comfortable.

Thanks for being here! I hope to be around more now. Take care!

Scott.

Glad to hear that things are starting to ease up. I am glad that your Dad is doing better and that the VA is helping with expenses. We moved my partner's mother out near us in May and she has just moved into the skilled nursing side of her facility. It makes quite a difference for her to have more help. Glad that your wife is recovering so well from her surgery and is able to go back to work.

Glad to hear things are looking up, Scott. Seems like 2009 has been tough on almost everyone. I hope 2010 is better, mentally, physical, and on our pockets.

Its good to hear things are looking up. It is truly wonderful the gov is picking up your father's "tab." He has certainly earned it! I hope you all get to enjoy life a bit more now.

Scott, thanks for the update. The best to you and dad. It is about time the government helped the people who enforced our right to freedom.

Scott,
You've been missed alot....glad to hear of you and your families improved situations. I know it is not easy to see a loved one live away from you, but it can be best for all involved. Hope to see things contiue to improve and look forward to you being more active, here.

Thank you all for the nice comments! My Dad was in the Army twice, from 37 through 39, and again 41 through 44. He had re-joined the Army in the fall of 41, and was in training in Texas when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He was over in Hawaii within a month of Pearl Harbor. He's a lifetime member of all three of the service organizations: DAV, VFW and the Legion. You don't see too many WWII Vets around anymore, and what's better is that even though his health is dwindling, his mind is still sharp! I will pass along the good wishes!

Take care!

Scott.

Yes, please thank your father for his service.
If I might make a comment, the best I can determine there are only 4 servicemen still living of all the countries in WW1. A great generation of men/women slowly coming to an end.

Scott, I don't know you, but I have a lot of respect for you for taking care of your elderly father. At a time when the government and a lot of young people just want to see all old people dead so we don't take up to much health care benefits. it is nice to see someone that cares. Good luck and God bless.

Scott we wil lall still be here when you come back, family must come first over penturning, great to hear your good lady has had successful operation, the money help is good news too.

These are all pressures that can now be released!

Good to hear from you Scott . Glad your wife is doing well , and I hope the VA gives your father the best care he deserves .
