I have an uncle that lives about two miles from the touchdown in Southaven MS (South Memphis); several relatives very close to that area. I have three close friends whose daughters and son were students at Union University in Jackson, TN. One relative had a tree fall on his house in Memphis. I have bought quite a bit of things from the Sears store that was all but destroyed at the mall in Memphis.

Franks lives up in the hills where tornadoes are not much of a problem compared to other parts or Arkansas. I live in Jonesboro which is in the NE part of the state and our area got hit hard by the storm and tornadoes. At least 45 people have been reported dead as of early this morning. We were lucky this time since the two bands of the storm passed to the east and west of us. We were in the midddle most of the time. Several tornadoes touched down near enough for the tornando sirens to sound out. In 98 we had a very close call in that an F1 tornado passed 600 ft south of our mobile home. So in 99 we built a house with a basement and sold the mobile home.

I'm glad you're safe, Paul. Forty-five lives lost from a tornado is devastating. I don't see how y'all are able to face tornadoes and hurricanes year after year like you do. More power to you.

Actually there many tornadoes. I recall the weather channel reporting at least 16 tornadoes spread across 5 or 6 states. The death count could have been much higher since a Sears store lost its roof and a wall at a mall in Memphis.

We hunkered down in our safe room for about an hour last night - no power and playing cards by flashlight to keep the kids occupied. We were right in the path of the tornado that took out Hickory Ridge Mall and had a couple others pass close by, but no damage other than a bunch of limbs down. It was still dark when I left for work this morning, so I don't know if we lost any trees on the back side of our property. I think a couple of neighbors have a tree down. I hope to go scavenging later.
