So much for playing with my new lathe, I was going out to check my dogs water, slipped on some slush on the porch and went boom, as only 265 pounds can do, some how I did some damage to the Rotator Cuff in my right shoulder, Wife drove me to the Dr. and he gave me a shot with a needle that was about 3 inches long and had a quart of stuff in it, it felt SOOOOOO good but now it's wearing off and I had to take the pain meds. I get to keep it in a sling and come back in 10 days, Damn I'm lucky. Fortunately my SIL is going to help me with the tools. And it's a good thing, cause I don't feel good on this medication, I just hope it heals and I don't need to be scoped. I really wanted to avoid any surgeries this year if possible. My SIL has got more time on my new lathe than I do, now he's gonna get some time on my Mill and metal lathe, but he hates tapping, I guess he'll take them to school and drill and tap them on one of the schools CNC mills. Well by the spinning of my head, I think it's tome to go nighty night.

That's a tough break Ken. Take it easy and heal up soon. Hey, at least you have an excuse to not shovel snow!

Ouch! Hope it feels better soon. :frown:

I was in a car accident in aug 06, had surgery on my shoulder in Oct 08 (socialized medicine is reallllly fast huh?) and still having problems.. There may be a rotator tear they missed when they took 3/4" of bone off my AC..

Rest the shoulder and dont push yourself.. I know its hard not too, but you dont want to make it worse..

You said slush? great! Make the best of it and use your unlimited supply of ice packs

Geess... mate, that should have hurt...!

No wonder why they used a "ginormous" needle on you, didn't you say that 265 pounds of body got hurt? no offense please!

They don't make us as tough as they did in the "old days", huh?:frown:

Get better soon, remember med's that make your head spin, don't mix with operating machinery...! Oh... I wish that I could hear myself on this one...!:smile-big:

Cheers
George

Really sorry to hear that Ken. I had almost the same kind of fall New Years day. Dogs get really sloppy with their water, don't they. But I just got bruised. I'll be saying some prayers you don't have to have surgery.

Take it easy!

We are going to have to wrap you in a foam rubber suit and change your saw blades to rubber ones so you don't hurt yourself anymore :beat-up::tongue::biggrin:

Hope you feel better soon . Enjoy the meds :hypnotized::biggrin:

OH NO! Ken I'm really sorry to hear about your mishap. Thank goodness it wasn't any more serious, but you definitely do without the pain and discomfort I'm sure.

Take care, follow Doc's advice and get better soon!

sorry to hear that. Hope things heal up and you don't need surgery. I had my rotator cuff done a few years back. the physical therapy was torture..

Ken, Sorry to hear about your accident. Be careful when taking pain meds they really mess with your perception and judgment of distance and the like Take it easy and like everyone else has voiced, "don't push it". Hope you heal quickly. Maybe you should go roll your shoulder in the snow-you certainly will get good pain relief. LOL

Ken, so sorry to hear about the rotator injury. Hope you fare better than I did with mine I had to have surgery and bone spurs scraped. Best of luck and heal quickly.

Bob

sorry to hear you are laid up..but on the bright side, your porch appears to be in quite good shape!!! won't have to leave your "sickbed" to fix it!

What Butch said! Take care of yourself and make the family wait on you hand and foot, and shoulder!

I thought for sure I was headed for injury yesterday. I forgot where my stool was and just sat back where nothing was. Fell into the air compressor, but both of us survived damage and only a little pain and bruise to my backside!

Ken, I am so sorry. I know you are really hurting.

Dang..sorry about your luck Ken. My wife is the same way, always falling down and getting hurt..stupid gravity! Hope you get well soon buddy.

Jeff gravity is a myth... the earth just sucks

Thanks friends, I think Hans is right the earth just sucks, so does typing with one hand, about all I have to do is do the shipping labels and look everything over, at least we didnt get much slush yesterday, but my wife had to help our daughter get her hot water running in one of their bath rooms, this is supposed to be the coldest days here for this time of year since 1985. I went up and checked Sil and daughters water a bit ago and my thermometer was at 7 degrees. Friday we are supposed to drop 0 or below. very unusual for this area, I feel bad for those of you that live up north.

Ken, I am afraid we are going to have to separate you from yourself. You just do not seem to be able to get along without someone getting hurt. Seriously hope it all goes well. I had a friend get hit by a car while riding his bike to work. most of the damage he took was to his rotator cuff. bad place to get hurt so take it easy on the shoulder a little time down now is worth it later. My prayers for healing.

Ken, here's hoping and praying you heal fast. I heard something about -40F in Oregon. Its about 15F here now and they are calling for snow Thursday night...a big deal here in the Carolina Piedmont! Be well, sir!

Have had three operations on my right shoulder. First was so poorly done that it will take years for the legal process to deal with it. Short version is that work "billed as being performed" was not done. Just never got better, no matter how much PT I did. Fast way to loose in court for the Dr., which will take, I am told, two plus years to happen. I am sure they will offer a last minute settlement as I am asking for peanuts not mountains of money. Had top be off work almost an extra year because of that goofball.

Second operation needed to fix what should have been done the first time. Third to clean up a little scar tissue which would not get better. Lots of PT. In fact if you do not do the PT do not do the surgery. At this point I have a full range of motion and almost all my strength back. Some ways I am stronger than before.

I pray that you do not need surgery. If they give you PT to do just do it. A pain in the -ss I know. But if you do the PT you might avoid the surgery or worse case be much stronger before the Pt after the operation which will make recovery much easier. Will say a prayer for you in church. Good luck.

Oh I know all about PT, been there done it way too many times, and yup I nearly always do what the Dr's tell me most of the time, I do heal pretty fast for a Old Fart,(not as old as Ed) I've about gone crazy today watching my SIL work on my lathe and milling machine, it's "My Precious" (gollum gollum) now he's playing with my new lathe, I only got to play with it for two days.

Hell, Ken, no one is as old as Ed!!

I think it is time you joined those "gloom dispair and agony on me" Hee Haw singers!

Get well soon my friend and take it easy!!

Sheese Ken,
You need to learn to fall and land like me.:). after I learned the proper way to fall, I never get hurt any more.:).. when I slip, I immediately get my feet as high in the air as possible, land firmly on my head... listening for the good solid "clunk" of the wood block hitting the ground and I know I've landed correctly.:biggrin:

Take care and get well quickly..
