My Father-in-law made me this wonderful toy. Okay, I won't use it too often to make pen blanks, but it beats an axe anyday. It handles up to a 24" log. Better than anything you can get from Homely Depot, Loews or any other big box store. Come by and borrow it if you are close by. Only took me 3 hours to make that mess.

But did you find any nice curly maple in that pile. Oh yeah the obligatory you suck.

I've got a small electric one and while it won't have the power of that beast I do use it for pen blanks. Split the stuff small enough it will go in the bandsaw.

Only split one piece of hard maple, absolutely no curl.

I see hydrolics...... make her bounce.

It took me a while, but I finally got it. I do live in an area where I could probably get that done. Low and slow. On second thought, I don't want to bend down further to split the wood. I guess if it dropped low to put the log on and then raised to the right height to split, it wouldn't be so bad.

I'm thinking flame decals. My friend's spliter has a sticker on it that says "Split happens".

Northern Handiman has all the components to make these. All you have to do is supply the money and time.

BTW, a log lifter is just what the device needs. It sure does save the ole back a lot of pain.

Now, get busy and clean up mama's sidewalk area. Be sure to put down some insecticide prior to stacking the wood. I find that helps keep critters from residing in the bottom of the pile.

BTW, excellent gloat!

under that wood!!!

CITY boy!!!!!

That would be Suburban boy to you. It's under the splitter to make it easier to clean up all the bark. I could have done it back in the field behind us, but then I would have to haul the wood to the splitter and back to the house.
