Too much pigment?

I tried doing a cast last night where the top hardened perfectly, but the bottom felt spongy. When I drilled it, the center came out powdery. I tubed it, but when I tried to turn, the outside worked great and the inner areas felt like a rubber sponge. If I poke at it, it tears in chunks like cheap foam

I am guessing the problem is either too much pigment, or it settling out while the resin is hardening.

Anyone with more experience want to chime in and tell me what I am doing wrong?

I tried to get a certain color of gold at one time and had similar results. I know that I had to much pigments and questionable pigments. (The blank ended up green  )
I did not drill it out or tube it because after several days it was still like rubber in the center.

Usually my blanks are tacky on the outside and fully cured and not tacky after I turn the first "skin" off.

Yeah that sounds like too much pigment. I've done it before too. I think you can put it in a toaster oven to harnden it all the way but if I remember right it'll look like it has a million pin holes when it's turned.

Lesson From Jonathan, you can over load your PR with pigment which will affect curing. I still got a few that are sticky months later. I also learned that not all pigments and colorants are equal.
