It was amazing to see the amounts of snowfall everyone up north was getting and today we finally got our share.

The 6pm news said we needed another 1/2" of snow to break an all time record. Since then we got two more inches in the front yard making it a bit over 10".

To put this in perspective, in a typical winter we might see snow once or twice and usually a dusting or less than an inch and doesn't last more than a day.

Today was a learning experience. Something I learned that most of ya'll snow country folks already know.... snow piled on top of the satellite dish will stop the signal!

Another thing I learned...... If you use a 15' section of pvc pipe with a putty knife taped to the end to remove 10" of snow from the 3' wide oval dish.... DON'T stand directly underneath the dish!

Another thing I learned.... snow falls 15' quicker than you can utter "oh crap" and move out of the way!

Another thing I learned..... if you aren't wearing a hood on your jacket and 20 lbs of snow falls on your head and face, snow will travel down and get between you and your boxers in a hurry AND it's still cold when it gets there!

Taken around 7pm and the snow was still coming down since 3AM this morning.

Funny story, gave the wife and me a laugh. My learning moment was when I went up a 24' ladder to clear the snow off my dish so we could watch the super bowl. Had 24" or so on the roof in front of the dish. That snow moves fast, and when on a ladder, you can't get out of the way. I agree, it gets cold when it goes places where it shouldn't.

Another lesson:

IF you mount the dish on a pole, next to your house, at about shoulder level, you will get fine reception, AND you can dust off the snow, without it falling on you!!!

Ask me about snow jobs, I am an expert!!!!

We're moving to snow country this summer so I'll keep that little tip in mind! Around here we never think of things like that, it's just install and forget!

IF you forget, it WILL remind you!! IF it is very overcast, no reception, if it snows, no reception, if a deer stands in the way, no reception (so make the pole taller the second time).

Lessons of life in the frozen tundra!!

The lesson I learn (and re-learn) in this weather is that you wash your hands
both after AND BEFORE using the rest room..

Well My son and daughter in law live in DC and they had 54" plus inches of snow! and she only 5"1" So she could have been missing if she were in the snow drifts!

Bummer - that must have been a shocking experience! We have a few inches on this side of dfw. I don't mind the snow, but I am dreading the ice tomorrow.

My parents live out between Azle and Weatherford off of Viel Station Road. I grew up in Springtown. I don't think I have ever seen 10 inches of snow in that neck of the woods at one time.

Hey George, if you know the snow is coming, go out beforehand and spray your dish lightly with PAM cooking spray. My sister used to work for Direct TV and that's what she told me to do. I have only had the chance to try it out twice, but it worked like a charm those times. I got Direct TV and satellite internet.

Yes; But do you get to keep the venison????

Interrupting the Superbowl is a capital offense for some folks....

No complaining about snow here in Toronto, Canada. We are on record to have the 'least' amount of snowfall since they began recording. My guess is that our snow has been 'given' to our friends in TX.:biggrin:

This has been one of the strangest winters on record in most of the Southern states, and the East Coast, at least the East Coast states expect some snow, but not like this.

We will more than happy to let you keep it. We usually go to Michigan every Christmas and looking out the window this morning me wife asked me if we had drove back up there while she was asleep because that it what it looks like outside.

I heard on the news this morning that they are having to SHIP snow in for the W. Olympics!!! I guess that is the only place on the planet that really does have global warming:biggrin:

Chris,
The other reason there are more cable subscribers is cause US rednecks see them thar round things. We then mistake them for targets, and voila, cable gets installed cause people don't like their houses getting shot AT.

Just an observation from around my neck or the woods too

Jerry

Did I mention a small pedestal, next to the house, is not VISIBLE from the ROAD!!!

(Unless they notice the deer standing in front of it---only at 5 AM)
