We at the Sacramento Area Woodworkers had our annual toy givaway tonight. Over the year club members make wood toys for the Salvation Army's Toys for Tots program. Dozens of different styles of toys are made. The Salvation Army brings in a big truck to pick up the toys at our Dec. meeting . This year we turned over 1450 toys. Merry Christmas
G'day Tom. Well done by your group![][][]
We recently had our annual wine and cheese night with auction to help Camp Quality (an organization here that Helps to lookafter the recreational and other needs of kids with cancer)
. Our club,The Woodturners Society of Queensland Inc.supports Camp Quality through this event and at our two annualexhibitions a proportion of sales also goes to CQ.
Our toymakers also operate along the lines of your club.
In addition we have other fund raising activities. For instance during the year a Kauri Pine tree had to be removed at RPA hospitalThe Timber was taken by our members, turned into various wondrous works of art that were then sold by th RPA.to raise funds.
Our club also runs Sessions for Department of Veterans Affairs War veterans as part of their therapy.
I'm sure many clubs do the same type of thing and I think we should write about and aknowledge these efforts.
It warms my heart to hear and read stories like yours. You are right we do need to hear more tales of the different groups and clubs that help people and families in need.
I wish to thank all the woodworkers and pen makers world wide who have brought a little cheer and a smile to somebody in need , be a soldier overseas getting a pen to write home or a child recieving a present. Thank You all. [][]
