Well for those that remember my little yorkie was hit by a car about 2 months ago and after two surgeries to repair her leg the doctor decided it was best to amputate it. She is doing fine and the doctor was great he felt so bad he couldn't save it he did it for free. It wasn't his fault she is just so small and her leg was shattered in three places. After the first surgery I gave him a pen as a thank you (which he really liked). He is a great vet! Here is a picture of her....

Dion, I remember how frantic you were after the accident. I'm glad the vet could save her for you and your wife. She will amaze you how well she will navigate on three legs.

Dion, It's good to know that she survived. Broke my heart when I first read your post. I used to breed yorkies and they are know for their independent spirit. That same spirit tends to get them into trouble as well. They are not much of a match for a car.

Dion,
I missed the first post about Tiny's accident. I can totally relate to your situation.

10-1/2 years ago, our German Shepard got out of the apartment we lived in (jumped off the 2nd story balcony and survived.) Got out of the complex, ran several miles away and tried to cross the Central Expressway in Plano, TX. She was hit by a F-150 going 60 m.p.h.... That person didn't stop, but another guy did and stayed with her until animal control got there. Three week later she came home minus her right front leg. Amputated the leg and shoulder completely. She was able to still get over a 6' fence, but now is getting quite slow in her old age.... She NEVER lost a step since the accident.
She's almost 16 now, nearly deaf, and grumpy towards the other two dogs we have. But still with us. I fear that it won't be long until she leaves a whole in our hearts..

Animals are great at adapting to what happens. They, unlike us humans, don't have "CAN'T" in their vocabulary....
