THREE THOUGHTS TO PONDER??

(1) Zero Gravity

When NASA started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat this problem, NASA scienti sts spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside-down, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging rom below freezing to over 300° C.
The Russians used a pencil. Your taxes are due again--enjoy paying them.

(2) Our Constitution

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200 years and hell, we're not using it anymore.

(3) Ten Commandments

The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse is that you cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians! It creates a hostile work environment.

No, but it sure does reflect the mentallity how our government has operated for years!

How does it do that if the story isn't true? Same way that it gives everyone a belly laugh to pretend like all lawyers and judges are amoral scumbags?

Not all lawyers, politicians, and judges are amoral scumbags. Its just that 99.999% of them give the rest a bad name.

Allow me to explain. Even though this instance is incorrect in the figures involved and the fact that a company on it's own developed what the government was looking for, our government, on a regular basis, does spend (or awards) excessively gross amounts of money on trivial issues. That is the mentallity of which I spoke. And I spoke as the government as a whole, not specfic individuals. I know there are those who are trying to honestly cut the inflated spending but they are fighting what is easily seen as a losing battle.

As was originally posted, it is a thought to ponder upon.

Lawyers and judges are a completely different topic!

c'mon, $12 billion?? They don't spend that much to develop aircraft for crying out loud, use common sense.

I'll agree with ya on that one. It is the Peruvian Air Force devolopment program were are speaking about right?!!!!!!!!!!!:biggrin:

OK, so #1 was a little extreme.

But I do remember well-documented reports of $66 hammers and $200 toilet seats. The details may have been wrong; but the basic point is still worth pondering.

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken that was in reference to expenses from government contractors. It's definitely bad. My wife used to work as a contractor for the government, and she would tell me about some of the things the government does....it's kinda rediculous. But what do you expect with an organization that has no incentive for profit? They'll be run ineffectively. For that matter, how about the 32% fraud rate for Medicare claims????

There were no $200 toilet seats. The toilet seats were standard $12 (in the mid '80s) units that you could find at any plumbing supply. The $640 (not $200, still mid '80s) was for the custom molded "deck" that the toilet seat attached to, and the toilet seat. If you've ever used the restroom on a commercial airliner, you're familiar with the sort of "deck" I'm talking about. Those decks aren't something you can pick up at any ol' plumbing supply, especially since the aircraft itself was out of production. Nor are they of the same quality of the deck in your average porta-potty. They are "aircraft quality", which means a far higher level of quality control, strength to weight, vibration resistance, etc.

Gov't does waste money, lots of it, but please use real examples, rather than wildly innacurate examples that do nothing more than feed populist delusions.
