I have an old threadmil motor...it is variable speed DC motor and is rated at 3HP (at the plate but very doubtful) and continous use.

I am saving it for my mini lathe in case the motor goes bad in the future. My problem, it is not TEFC [V].

What can be done to make sure it won't burn later due to dirt accumulation?

Or is it a bad idea to begin with and should be abandoned?

I know Brian (TomServo) played with similar ones earlier...any input? ;)

Thanks!

I have been using mine for over a year now with no trouble. I found a plastic tube (like a 6" PVC pipe) and used it to cover the motor. I leave the end open for air flow.
