These pictures are from Saturdays charter fishing trip. It was this young mans 8th birthday and his folks wanted him to catch a big fish. First fish on right after getting lines set. A 12 pound lake trout, not a huge fish, but all this young man could handle and it made his day. The cranky looking old guy helping him is the Capt. Getting young people interested in fishing and outdoors instead of video games and tv is one of the things I love about this job. Ignore the date stamp on the pictures, it is wrong. There is no way I would be out on Lake Michigan Jan. 1, I may be a bit crazy, but not totally bonkers.

Capt, I remember 35 yrs ago when my oldest caught a bluegill, not much bigger than a silver dollar, what a proud look on his face. Keep up the great job

Good for you, and him. It will be an experience he will remember for a long time

I took one of my daughters to a fishing contest at a lodge I belonged to when she was very young. She was so excited when she caught a fish. It was dinky, but she was proud. Once all the fishing was done prizes were given out. My daughter's name was announced over the PA as, "The Youngest Angler" Now, "Angler" was not a term she was familiar with. She looked very puzzled and asked me how they knew her fish was the youngest one caught!! She is 29 now, and we still get a chuckle out of it.:)

A very nice story Captain!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and the wife will never be able to find him on weekends!

Nice trip Cap. I wish we could be doin that but looks like B.P. ruined our fishin season. Make up the difference for us.

Bad as that mess in the Gulf is, maybe we can capitalize on that up here in Michigan. Nobody is suffering more economic pain than us, we have a beautiful pristine state and I'm pretty sure we have the most coastline of any state in the union! We could really use some of those vacation people to come up here, we have some world class beaches, world class fishing, world class golfing, lakes so clear you can see the bottom all the way across...I think they said in Michigan you are never more than 4 miles from a body of water. It's a beautiful state...Pure Michigan. :)

The fish is almost as big as he is. Looks like it was kind of a foggy day out on the water. Did it end up clearing up for your guests?

It did get foggy after we started to fish, but I have a good gps plotter and a radar to watch for other boats. Fog burned off about an hour before going in.

Gary,

A job well done, great pictures and storyline. The young man will be able to cherish that fishing trip for a loong long time.
