WTH? All thats old is new again? Its got lead! It wears of a little, but never wears out? Nice marketing, but I think we're ok to keep making pens for a while :)

If you really wanted to you could buy one, turn down the shaft and use that as an insert or build a pen around it. At $28 that would be an expensive refill, of course it would be the last refill you buy for that pen.

Its like the scribe DaVinci used. I think its called "silvertip" "silverpoint" something like that....

Pretty neat if we could find a source for tips.

it is silver point. I have had my student when I was teaching make them. all it is , is 99 fine silver. works pretty good, but you only get soft lines. it wouldn't write on a lot of modern papers very well.

I think our love of pen making is safe... HA!

Doesn't seem to me that it writes very well....not very dark at all. Could be just the tip, looks like the barrel could be anything including say a slimline....pull out the transmission, the refill and replace the tip, Or as an alternative make a "refill" with the business end the metal, and the rest of the refill shat solid...put a cross refill cap and you have a never drying cross refill. Don't chuck your lathes.

What I find to be funny is how they justify the use of lead in the tip...here is a snip from their FAQ:

"Question: Isn't lead dangerous?
Answer: Yes, lead is dangerous if you eat copious amounts of it. The same is true of hamburgers. However, because of this danger, we strongly warn against allowing children to use the Inkless Metal Pen (despite the fact that the amount of lead in the Inkless Metal Pen is miniscule). A child could put the tip in their mouths. They may also drive too fast after they get their driver's license...but we don't have much control over that."

So apparently Hamburgers is just as deadly as lead...damn I like hamburgers too...
