Was looking at some burls on ebay and this is what I learned.

If a piece of Cocobolo has a knot going through it, this can be a burl. (search "cocobolo burl")

Amboyna burl has been banned from import since 2007 (search "blood amboyna")

Amboyna is the most expensive burl wood in the world. (search "amboyna burl")

A tree that the center has rotted out of is called a burl. (search "natural opening")

Longest name for a listing for a burl: stabilized black ash flame burl jumbo pen blanks. To be fair, there are several tied with 8 words, like Ozie Taz Myrtle Burl Exotic Wood Pen Blanks. Still, it's one thing to have some ash burl for sale, it's another thing entirely to have stabilized black ash flame burl jumbo pen blanks for sale.

Are there even any good deals on Ebay anymore?

Sure. You just have to screen through about 100:1 ratio of rip offs. Usually ridiculously high shipping.

The deals are better on Craigslist, but you have to work a lot harder to find anything.
