Well, I am posting again after a while of not being around... I have been working on a few big projects, one of which I am announcing tonight. I want my friends here to have the first shots at it!

http://www.TheWoodWiki.com is now operational. But it has no articles yet, so it is sad. So that is where you come in. It will be a fully functional Wikipedia-esque site, where you can upload and create and edit articles, but with all things that pertain to woodworking of any kind.

Some ideas for Wikis to add:

Info on different types of wood
Tools
Tips
Techniques
Influential woodworkers/woodturners (DocStram/Oprah?) =)
Resources
Vendor information

And anything else pertaining to woodworking of any nature. Of course we want to keep any entries purely factual, although if the IAP entry that will inevitably show up contains claims of being the best site ever, I might have to overlook that [8D]

And someone that would like to win a flat rate envelope of free blanks - please create me a clever logo for at LEAST temporary use :D

Thanks, everyone, I hope that this will be a fun and useful resource for us! It will stay afloat by donations, and like the IAP, will be 100% ad-free. Email me with any comments or suggestions.

No relation - did not know there was one. I am not trying to steal anyone else's thunder... if this works to be a a help to some people, I will be happy with it.

Thanks Brander, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Sorry, I just don't see the point. There are numerous woodworking/turning discussion sites now folks can turn to for information.
The wiki concept is, almost by definition, unreliable. Anyone can post anything and then others can change it. What is posted often comes from unreliable sources and is inaccurate.
I know that the original Wikipedia is very popular. That doesn't mean it is a dependable source for information.
You get an 'A' for effort. But 'F' for value.

Your input is duly noted, Frank. It may not have value to everyone, but remember that forums are very similar (well, so is most of the internet's information). Anyone can post information (including irresponsible posters that might not check their sources). So, although it might be an "F" in value to you, perhaps some folks will be able to find it useful, which is the goal.

While, I think the idea has merit. I don't think it will get used. As an example, my tool review site. Most liked the idea, but no one will write reviews. Even though, I will leave it up.

Well, everyone rained on my party :D Oh well, I think instead I will turn in into a resource for info and pics on different wood types - in my free time. So it might make some progress in a few months after I get my other projects done.
