I lived for four years in New Orleans. My dental school was flooded and had took quite some time to open again. Places I know and love were destroyed. Put yourself in the place of those of us who love the city with all its faults.

Do we plan to desert major cities in California when they have earthquakes like the one during the World Series some years ago? Do we plan to desert those who build and rebuild in fire prone areas?

Why is it that so many are ready and willing to write off New Orleans? Unfortunately, forum decorum and rules prevent me from venting my full and true feelings on that particular subject.

William - I think you may have missed the point of the cartoon. Note that the caption says it is FEMA's guidelines. The artist is mocking a bureau of the government, I think, and not taking a shot at either N.O. or the people who love and want to rebuild it. I feel quite certain that we share similar feelings about the plight of the Big Easy.

That is a funny cartoon.. love cartoons that take shots at the "gubmment"..

Cav,
I never got to go, but for 10 years I did business with a steamship lines based in N.O... every year they threw a party and invited all their clients, shippers, forwarders, etc..... My boss and sales mangler always went, but I was the one who did all the interface with the company... sorry I never got to go as from all accounts it was quite a party....

Lou and Mannie, I regret that I over-reacted. Here in PA I hear people regularly saying that New Orleans should be deserted. When I saw the title of the post and the pix, I saw red.

Pick on FEMA all you want, and rip Ray Nagin to shreds; I'm with you 100% on that.

Cav,
If you wanna know what FEMA stands for, according to a Tee shirt I saw on Bourbon street last weekend, email me, I can't post it here.

Yeah, it makes good pens, the trouble is keeping them on the lathe, and all the squealing they make while you turn the pen.....
