We've had a volunteer step up to host our next meeting, Saturday, Feb 26th, at 0930 at the Diamond residence out in Cypress. We've got lots of new members popping up lately, and this is the down season as far as shows go, so the timing is pretty good! Thanks Harry!

Harry suggested a $5 donation per person would get us plenty of pizza...which saves me having to cook somethin for the potluck, so I'm IN!

Assuming at least some of you are interested and can make it, what kind of demo's would we like to have? What kind of demo are you just chompin at the bit to show us?

Personally, I'd be happy (nay, EXSTATIC!) to bring my new-to-me camera/ tripod/ lights/ photo box if someone would be kind enough to show me how to USE this stuff!!!

So let's hear it! Who's in? Who wants to see what kind of demo's? THEN, we'll see if we have anyone capable/willing to do them!

Sounds good!

I'd love to see the demonstration for taking pictures of pens too. Don't know what I can bring to the table in the ways of a demonstration - maybe some yummy yummy cupcakes will have to do? :D

I would like to come too......let me know what to bring,,,,

I got the when, but I'm not familiar with the where.....

Looking good on attendance so far! But I'm not seeing any demo requests yet...

Once we get a bit closer and the list stops growing, Harry or I will PM everyone with address, phone number and directions to his house in Cypress. No sense giving the spammers any more info than we absolutely need to!

I'm in for the meeting and pizza! I'll throw out some demo ideas I'd like to see.

1. sharpening, gouges, skews and other tools
2. sanding techniques
3. finishing techniques. the usual and the unusual. Ex ~ thick or thin CA and what are the common obstacles with CA.
4. hidden clips
5. closed end turning
6. how best to use the skew on wood and acrylics
7. is anyone casting there own blanks with any amount of success
8. discussion on bulk buying. Ex ~ no one carries the Emporer kit anymore that I know of. I usually get a bulk order 1-3 times a year for some of these. Anywhere from 5-20 pens. Dayacom will fill an order but I think you need 50 kits for a minimum!!
9. cutting pen blanks from a hunk of tree. what are some methods and what is the best part on the tree to use?

There's my .02 cents.

Also need an address for the location of the meeting. Looking forward to it.:good::good::good:

Dion I'm from Charleston. Been in TX since 1996. If you're a golfer you are in the right place. Used to drive to Myrtle in high school and cruise the strip all the time.

Have fun in SC!

I am new to turning and would like to see some techniques on using the skew. I would also like to see other items that everybody makes to sell. Maybe have a list of local names and contact email addresses in case some body needs a kit or a part that can't wait to be ordered. I will be there!

And it will end whenever you want/need to leave:rolleyes: or Harry kicks us out:eek:....which ever comes first.:biggrin::biggrin:

Should be able to make it, count me in. I know we have someone in the area who can do an invisible clip. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Just a little over a week till the meeting. I will be bringing glue for sale, but if you know you will want some, please PM me so I can make sure I bring enough. If you want pen boxes or BOW, be sure you let me know, otherwise I will not be bringing any extra.

Thanks to Kallenshaan Woods!!!

Monty (Mannie) suggested I might contact Ken Nelson at Kallenshaan Woods for a possible door prize donation for next week's gathering...and boy, did Ken come through like gangbusters!!!

I'm drooling, looking at the contents of the box he sent to us to give away next week!

If you're draggin you're feet about whether you want to come to Harry's place next weekend, maybe the chance to win some really cool Sierra/Wallstreet II laser-cut kits will help you convince your better half to let you come!

Thanks for the suggestion Mannie...and a BIG THANK YOU to Ken!!!

Sounds good to me, Mannie!

If everyone will bring a couple of blanks, we'll do a drawing or maybe a White Elephant type exchange!

Hey, anything to get folks involved and get them to show up! :)

It looks like I will make it to the meeting. I will be taking some "Mutts" for sale but if anyone wants any specific types let me know to make sure I take them. Also, I am making them big enough for turned boxes (2 1/2 x 3") so if anyone is interested in that size let me know. See you in a week, Eugene

Just a reminder that if you want to order any glue, BOW or pen boxes, send me a PM so I can makes sure I have enough to fill your order. I have received orders from USMCLtcol and hjdiamond2. to be sure I have enough for your order, let me know by Sunday nite. I'll be placing a glue order on Monday.
Right now I only have 124 of the cardboard boxes in stock. I hope to have more in by the end of next week but I can guarantee they will be in.

I'm going to try to make it, but not sure if it will be possible yet. I'm in need of some CA and pens boxes - sending PM to Mannie now. Thanks.

Lee,
I am just getting back involved. I've had alot going on recently. I would love to come but I am committed to helping someone move on Saturday. Give me a call sometime, you and I still need to get together.

Looking forward to the meeting. I too am hoping someone can do a demo, or at least give some tips on taking photos. Have never been able to quite get that down. (I hope it's okay for an Austinite to crash the Houston meeting!)

Sorry it's down to the last minute. My mother in-law will watch the kids for a couple hours while I meet you guys there. Can't wait to see you guys!

My wife and I are still planning on coming but may be a little late. We have a sick pet that needs to go to the vet and do not feel we can wait until Monday for her.
