It's a little difficult to get motivated to spin some wood today. Normally that would not be a problem. The TV would be blaring, the stereo going, the house phone is on hold and my daughter's cell phone would be racking up the minutes. I would RUN to my garage sanctuary!

Amber, our youngest daughter, left yesterday for Marine Corps boot camp in Parris Island, SC. We got the official 20 second phone call from her late last night that she was at the camp. I can be very stoic when necessary but there was no need for that last night. My wife has been moving slow today and I'm fine with that. Her baby is gone for three months.

Maybe I will go in to spin some wood. It's just too quiet in the house.

Joe,
When next you speak with her, please thank your daughter for her selflessness and the outstanding example she is setting for my son and others. Please also let her know that we'll always be in her debt.

In the mean time, I think there are at least a few members here who will be HAPPY to let you "borrow" their teenagers for a few days! [:D]

Ooo Rah! Pass along from an old MAaine a heart felt Semper Fi! And a "Thanks for serving"!!!! My son has a little over a year yet but his plans are Marine Corps all the way!!

Joe, we know that feeling. Our youngest joined the Corps almost three years ago. Survived Iraq by the Grace of God and is now a single parent at Camp LeJeune. Please thank her as Jim so elegantly put it!

Joe,

My daughter finished Navy boot camp in October, so I have an inkling of what you and your wife are feeling. Pride mixes with sadness, but it is a tough thing to experience.

I know you are as proud of her as I am my daughter.

Joe,tell that daughter this old Jarhead said Semper Fi, just reading this brought a tear to my eye(wait a minute I thought us old Marines were supposed to be tough guys)it's so good to see our young people take pride in our country enough to serve in the military, man it's been over forty four years since i enlisted in the Few and The Proud.

That is worthy of another Ooo Rah!!

Joe, Children growing up and leaving home, sadly, is a part of life. But a part that is necessary for the growth of both the parents and the child. Embrace this time as husband and wife to grow closer as such. Also take this time to begin to see the fruition of the years of love you have poured into your daughter. After all the gladness, heartache, sweat, tears, and joy you have lived for her, she is stepping out to take her place. And the place she has chosen is an honor, especially on the day she finally earns the title of Marine. Nuff said, dab gum dirt in my eye!

Joe

As a father of 2 Marines - God Bless you and your family. I can remember as if it was yesterday graduation day at Parris Island and a son all grown and proud. You, your family and your daughter are in our prayers. Welcome to the family - Semper FI.

HotJoe (Mike)

We are only a free nation due to the sweat, blood and tears of those who served and those who work for those who served.
Ooh Rah
Thanks to you, your wife, and your daughter.
