The hardest part about taking down xmas lights

1. Thinking about taking down the lights before your first cup of coffee.

2. Listening to SWMBO tell you to take down the lights before you finish that first cup of coffee.

After that it is a breeze.:D

Hey Ron, I forgot to ask while I was there - did she get you the Powermatic, too? After the story about how she got the 1236 down the stairs, I was just wondering...hehe

[:p]

I get my lights at Walmart after Christmas. They're like 2 strings for a buck.

My method of putting up/taking down?

Step 01) Wait till last minute to put them up with a staple gun.
02) Enjoy Christmas.
03) Enjoy New Years.
04) Wait till wife declares that I need to take a Saturday and get the Christmas lights down.
05) Wait one extra Saturday to build a sense of urgency.
06) Schedule following Saturday for X-mas clean up day.
07) On said Saturday, Get up at 6:00, shower, have coffee, get ready for the day's work before the wife gets up.
08) At 7:00, declare that I'm going to get to it, hold my calls, don't schedule anything for the day, I've got work to do.
09) At 7:03, grab cord on lead strand of lights. (unplug for best results)
10) Yank.
11) Repeat as necessary.
12) At 7:12, throw giant wad of cheapo, twoferabuck Christmas lights in trash can.
13) At 7:13, sneak into the wood shop and enjoy a day of taking down Christmas lights.

:D

She's happy and you're...well...[:I]...happy!

Now, let's keep this method on the down-low.

Addendum to method: Next year, add "Go to Walmart and buy clearance-priced, replacement light strings for the ones I'm about to destroy" Between steps 05 and 07, typically when you're there buying something you really need.

LOL Too Funny!:D:D

She didn't get me the Powermatic, but for the last two years she was telling me that I should get a bigger lathe.

Now she's nagging me to build a shop in the back. She never lets up.

I don't mind taking the lights down, it's the getting them down from and putting them back into the attic that's a killer. While living with a wife that has a collection of Santas that has surpassed the 300 mark, don't even think about not putting up the lights. [8D]

I know, nag nag nag! Now you have to go through the pain of putting in a 20' x 30' heated slab, double-insulated, 3-phase enabled, two-story workshop with a custom built 'man room' (translate: A good sized, heated bathroom complete with reclining commode, magazine racks and Internet access to post on the forum while you're...uhhh...designing projects...).

When will it end!? They never give us a second to enjoy ourselves, do they? ;)

Nice, My LOML told me to either build a car port to protect her Jeep or build a shop behind the garage so she can get the Jeep in the garage again.

Geeeeeee, let me see, a car port or A Shop! Duh.

That's right if you are going to do it you might as well do it right.

I'm gonna need to start with one of these

Whatsa guy to do?

Simple solution to Xmas lights. Buy a house where nobody can see them. Then you have a reason NOT to put them up every year. It's works.

Yesterday, I reclaimed my shop!!

We took down the lights, but guess where everything wound up? ... lying about the floor, on the tools, boxes everywhere!!

I bought 8 large plastic storage boxes, organized everything, and stacked it all up... I have my shop back!!! Almost, I still have to organize the mess so I can get back to work, but I'M CLOSER THAN I WAS !!!

I feel your pain. I have Rubbermaid boxes (big ones) stacked floor to ceiling with Christmas stuff in my garage/shop. We add more each year. I threatened to build a storage shed just for the stuff.
