Thanks to every one for their encouragement,just got myself a lathe cant wait to start turning. Hope to display my first pen before summer ends (Or starts as i live in Scotland.). :)

Welcome to an addicive, time consuming, wife irritating, absolutely cool hobby - or if you are independently wealthy, great way to pass the time.
 
Welcome from Georgia (USA). It's a fascinating and sometimes frustrating tool. Practice, turn anything you can get your hands on. And don't forget...we like pictures!

Don't spend an hour in your shop turning a seam ripper for your wife if there is a new baby at home. Even if your wife was reading a book, the baby was sleeping, and the 2 year old was watching a video. With newborns, all hell breaks loose quick, then you find yourself pushing Fido aside, and in charge of all middle of the night diaper changes. I don't think a foot massager would have helped my case, I'm just glad that I didn't turn a mallet or rolling pin... :biggrin: I think she's forgiven me, but I better go change another diaper just in case.
