A neighbor killed a copperhead in his backyard. We live i town so it's a little odd to find one of these. I lucked out and was able to get it before some critter or it started to decompose. I gave him a small piece of it back to say Thank You.

I use isopropyl alcohol and glycerin when I tan. I had a long bad spell with casting snakes. I tried all kinds of methods. During that time I air dried a few skins thinking it was the tanning process that was giving me fits. Now that I'm able to make some nice blanks I'll experiment with the air dried skins just because it's a bit quicker than tanning.

Monty it was about 24" long and I got about 12" of usable skin. I told my neighbor if he would be a little more careful or more accurate I could've gotten 2-3 more pens out of it.
If it was me, it would have been chopped and pulped into 1/2" bits.. I truly love the pen, but hate snakes when they are able to move.

Wow! Mark I understand you being afraid or just not liking them but there's no reason to go off on them. Plus look at what you can do with them later. This one ventured where he wasn't supposed to.
