This weekend, I (and my family) had the opportunity to meet James Jenkins (jjenk02) and once more proved how nice IAP members are.

He drove all the way from San Angelo, TX to San Antonio, TX just to meet us. That is 240 miles!!! [:0]

Granted he was to pick up the lathe I just sold him, but he had a choice of having someone else pick it up for him who are passing by San Antonio anyway.

At any rate, I met a wonderful person...so much more than we see online. I only wish we had more time to talk and do some turning but he has to drive back.

Thank you James, we sure had a good time having you over.

My only regret....I wasn't even able to snap some pictures. [V]

You have to keep in mind, while 240 miles might take you across several state lines in the eastern part of this great country, it's not an unusual distance for 'round here. To help put it in context, Chicago is closer to Washinton, D.C., than Texarkana is to El Paso. As a matter of fact, folks in El Paso are closer to Los Angeles than they are to their neighbors in Texarkana on the eastern side of the state.....

[;)]

Lol I'm joking[:I]

Sounds like you had fun Dario! Always nice to make new acquaintances, isn't it?

Lyle, I grew up in NJ, where you could practically throw a stone across the widest part of the state (and I HAVE actually thrown a stone across another part of the state!) - your description of TX is tough for me to comprehend! Just imagine how Mark Ligett must feel!

Lyle,
You're right about the distances in Texas... I used to have people in Europe call me up to see if I did local deliveries in Texas... From Houston to El Paso is 745 miles, from LAX to El Paso is 739 miles... "The sun has ris' and the sun has set, we ain't out of Texas yet"

North to South, From Texline in the panhandle to Brownsville down by the coast, is 930 miles. That's almost as far from Edinburg, Scotland, to Venice, Italy. Texline is actually closer to the Canadian border (866 miles) than it is to Brownsville, Texas. Can you say "Road Trip"!!!!!

I have driven the I10 from Phoenix to Houston, actually a couple states farther then that. The stretch from El Paso to San Antonio is bad enough to make you want to saw a leg off, plus at times the smell of the oil fields ( I guess that was the smell). I advise you drive it at night. At least you cant see it.

I've been real busy this week sitting up a new location for the company I work for, so I'm a little late in thanking Dario and his family for their Texas hospitality. They feed me a crab and corn bisk, steak and shrimp, plus cake and ice cream desert, I think I put on a couple of pounds. I fell in love with his new lathe, but it wouldn't fit in the trunk of the rental car. [:D][:)]

If any of you get the oportunity to visit Dario, don't mis the chance.

Now I can't wait to get back home and make some sawdust on the lathe I purchased from Dario
[:D]

LOL

James,

Hope you enjoy your "new" lathe. If you ever pass by our way again, you are always welcome. [:)]

Again, thanks for the visit [:)]
