I just read a thread in the pen turning section.
I had nothing to add to the methods listed.

I DID want to take this chance to offer my thanks for this type post.
I'm still refining my methods(likely always will be). I like what I'm seeing. It seems even among some of the well-learned members the best answer is often -'it depends'.
Not in so many words but I see it in between the lines. 'on soft woods, I' do this, and 'if', that 'normally I... unless, ' There are perspectives and 'tweaks' to similar methods. Its okay not to agree. You can even do something 'not the same way' as every one else!

On some sites I've seen "this was covered" and "that was talked about in another post".
Gentlemen and Ladies, this is why I enjoy this site so much. We all weren't here since day one. Its okay to ask 'the standard newbie questions'.... And even tell people if you didn't understand their answer. I haven't seen anyone get reemed out for asking questions and trying to USE this site!

Thanks to all of you for this.
After "the change over" I have problems finding threads/posts I know I saw before.
I've seen many questions on some things over and over or very close but this group allows people to ask their question, and give good answers. And IT'S OKAY!
Thank you all for making this site what it is~

Can you maybe tell I'm about fed up with another site I go to? It seems there, that if you need to ask questions, you aren't welcome. And it wasn't me that was asking. Just seems odd to have a forum where people get trashed for trying to use it. Sigh....
time to go to the shop and find my 'happy place'....
Enjoy your weekend all!!!

Fire Captain, (we gotta make at least first names mandatory). Not trying to pick on you cappy. I also appreciate how new people are treated here. Very different than other groups I have been a part of. I have seen the "Search for it" type responces try to get started here but they always get washed out. Anouther thing i have noticed is that by answering the new turners questions. The answers get refined, slowely but surely. answers to questions about CA finish look nothing like they did 7 or so years ago when i was asking the question. Home casting did not really exist, Questions on home stabalization could very well get you flammed. And most members thought $7.00 pen kits where highway robbery. the most expensive blank in town was a 5 or 6 dollar masterpiece from Bill B. So the truth is it is a you scratch my back I'll scratch yours right out of the gate. I think of this often when I see the new folks add to there posts. "sorry for asking so many questions". There are basically 4 things everyone does here.
1. Ask questions.
2. Answer questions, Argue about the answer to a question.
3. Show something off.
4. spend all our money.
7 years plus of turing pens and I still have more questions than anything.

We try and welcome everyone to the site and make them feel at home among friends.
The learning part is never ending for all of us.
So get out and make some pens----wez likes pics----- :)
Glad you found your way over here.

Agree with Daniel and Gary,
The IAP is usually my first stop every morning when I come up on the internet. Always something interesting to read here, either a new technique and some update on members.. I still check in on the other sites, but IAP is my favorite

One thing I have to say, I have seen several posts lately where people take offense when posters don't give their real names. I know it is meant only in the friendlist of reasons, but real names are optional, that is why there is the username. Is the person doesn't post their real name, call them by their username, that is their "user-name". Just my humble opinion which is worth nothing to others. Call me whatever you like, but don't call me late to dinner..

And frycaptn is correct, this is a great site!

Paul, My comment was not meant to be offensive so I apologize if it was. It was ment to be humorous. I do prefer to be able to address messages to a "Name" and you are right, people should have the right to be called whatever they want to be called.

Don't miss understand me, I read it as you being friendly certainly not offensive. I have just seen this in several posts lately on this and other forums. Just thought I'd comment on it. I understand where you are coming from, but some have their reasons.

Great post FYRCAPTN! I totally agree. I turned my first pen in April and am now into casting my own blanks and stoppers all because of this site and the great idea about using the 50% off coupon at Michael's. Now my wife even enjoys playing in the resin and had me order more from U.S. Composite.
