This bowl took me over two months to finish.
Neighbor next door took down a very large Silver Maple and I got my picks of the timber. I posted about that some time ago.
One of the pieces was a large crotch piece that I was eager to get started. Well, about half way through turning the outside I found the centers of the two adjoining limbs were punky as all get out. The whole project should have just been thrown away. Problem was, LOML saw the turning and fell in love with the spalting.
Well, 2 months and 3/4 of a set of 5 minute epoxy later it was in a condition I could call completable.

Wife Loves it, I'm rather indifferent about but at least it's off my lathe.

The spalting is impressive... But I agree with you that it may not be one to view as a masterpiece. But for what you had to work with you did a fine job and got some brownie points - priceless. šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£ Well done.

That spalting is crazy nice! I can only imagine how punky that wood was. Did you stabilize it with something? It looks like it would have soaked up an 8 oz bottle of CA. Not considering the inevitable tearout, that came out quite nicely! That is a long time to take up the lathe space, though.

Thanks,
Yeah, really punky, like all the way through the piece. I seem to encounter this situation quite often. I buy my thin CA in an 8oz bottle. I used about 2 of the 2oz bottles.
Yeah about the lathe time. But, it cleared up for the next project.
