November, 2015, I took a two day workshop with Nick Agar...Awesome!

One of the items I turned was a textured cherry vase. I needed another one so I made a sister vase! On the new one, I hollowed instead of just drilling the inside and varied the texturing.
It is really surprising how much the earlier vase had darkened to such a deep rich color.
These are approximately 3"diameter and 7"tall. I also added some spiral texturing under the foot.

Thanks for looking!

I like these. Well proportioned and the texturing is a nice touch. Subtle differences but that is what makes hand made things unique. Thanks for showing.

They look pretty .... what's the dark material?

The dark textured areas on the vases were first textured, airbrushed with black stain, coated with a white liming wax. Then the liming wax was buffed off the surface leaving it in the texture recesses. A couple light coats of satin lacquer protect these areas.
The natural cherry has Tung Oil Finish applied.
I will lightly buff the piece in a few days.

Thanks everyone for the compliments!

I have enjoyed getting into the embellishment side of finishing my pieces!
...And I was the one who never would consider putting paint on wood!
I also enjoy turning things that I had not done in the past....sort of growing and expanding my horizons!

Some of our club members jumped on the Grizzly sale when they were closing the PA facility and got a bunch of 22" lathes. I seem to be going the other direction and turning smaller items now.
I have done some bowls in the 14/16" range but don't see the need for them at this point.
