We need a truck to tow a small trailer to pen shows. We can afford $3,000.00. It needs to be a Chevy 1500 or Ford f-150, automatic, A/C, short bed. Miles aren't too important if well maintained but we intend to drive it across the U.S. We hope to find it locally in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Willis, Spring, Katy, League City. I guess that takes in most of East Piney Woods Texas.

John. unless your dead set on a pick up why not a min-van. I've been using a mini-van for the last 3 years. In your price range a PU is usually put through its paces whereas a mini -van was most likely used by a soccer mom. Secondly a PU with trailer at shows most of the time will delay arrival set up and exit. I travel most of the SW with 6 tables,my Lite Dome Canopy,weights,3-4 hundred pens, complete set of lights if needed for the show, all my fitted table covers, luggage at times for 2-3 weeks, collapsible cart...plus my lovely wife and all her............stuff.

I agree with the mini van option. Last year, I traded my PU for a mini van. The mini van has more than enough room for all of my show stuff. Plus, it gets over 30mpg on the highway - try that with a PU.

I concur with the more fuel efficient auto...but hey, I drive a toyota corolla and get all the show stuff in plus two people...and get 41 mpg...get organized and pack well..

Your input is very useful. And your comments about your wife were shared with Mary. She giggled at them. This will primarilly be Mary's ride and she had been considering vans. We will go back at it again. Oh, Mary oil paints and needs something to put her paintings into for the shows.

No... you missed Cut n Shoot.

A mini-van also works well with wet or damp weather or wind. Keeps everything in better shape. I did a circuit of the US when I was making handcrafted leather goods and the van always worked really well.

Thank you, we are leaning toward a AstroVan. Met a guy today that had a beautiful Ford F-250. He was pretty proud of it. Too expensive for our budget. I want to keep in touch with you. My next step is to make journals. I know how to make paper, thread it, fold it and bind it. Leather is the cover of choice but doing leather in tasteful manner is what escapes many artists. I'd like to see some of your work. Would you consider posting it?
