The below was posted at the end of another post about a Texas Flag pen. But I wanted to give it - its own post:

TEXAS Trivia: Did you know:
Did you know it is illegal to put beans in chili - in Texas.

Did you know that REAL Chili does NOT have tomato sauce in it?

More TX Trivia - Did you know that by Direct Distance:

. . . that El Paso, TX is closer to Los Angeles, CA and Salt Lake City, UT than it is to Texarkana, TX?

. . . that Texarkana is closer to Chicago, IL, Columbus, OH, Charleston WV, and Columbia, SC than it is to El Paso?

. . . that Dalhart, TX is closer to Billings, MT, Rochester, MN and Springfield IL, than it is Brownsville, TX?

. . . that Port Author TX is closer to Atlanta, GA, St. Petersburg/Tampa, FL and Springfield, IL, than it is to El Paso?

. . . that Brownsville, TX is closer to Pensacola, FL than it is to Dalhart, TX?

Texas is huge!

Occasional seen bumper sticker in TX:
"I wasn't born here, but I got here as quick as I could!"

Feel Free to add your Texas Triva!

BTW, my middle daughter was born there; LOML was given an "Honorary Texas Citizen" certificate and Texas Flag from the PTA of the school when we were in Ft. Worth - '75 - '80.

Sometimes it takes someone on the other side of the world to recognize just how grand Texas is. Now far beit that I would want to toot our (being Texas) own horn, but ain't we huge and pretty and nice and welcoming and gracious and giving and hansome and debanaire and humble and did I mention HOT and humid!!:tongue::cowboy:

I heard a rumor that Texas was going to be seceding from the nation... will that be anytime soon and what can we do to help it along?

here is another bit of Texas trivia for ya:

It is windy in Oklahoma because TEXAS SUCKS and KANSAS BLOWS.

What is the best thing out of Oklahoma?

The University of Oklahoma.

Reminds me of a story about a Maine farmer and a Texas Rancher (they're not farmers
in Texas, they're ranchers) comparing their properties while touring the farm in Maine.
The farmer explained that his farm went "from the bottom of that hill over there way out
past those sycamores down there on the horizon."
"That's all?" the rancher asked. "Why I can get in my truck at one end of my property,
drive all day long and STILL not reach the other side of my ranch by sundown"
"Ayuh" said the farmer. ".. had a truck like that once, too."

A few of us more poor Texans occasionally slip in a few pinto beans to make the chili go farther but normally we just add more peppers. Also everyone does not live on a big ranch.I live on a small lot, only 45 acres.

Now see...........this is what I'm talking about.......humility!!! God love ya for adding those pintos!!

Think about it. If you lived in a state that was famous for it's Chili. how close would you be to your neighbor?

We still have conversations in Alaska about splitting the State of Alaska in half and making Texas the third largest State.

Nope, won't happen.

LOL When it comes to Texas , Texans are anything but humble

Many years back when I was working in California, my domestic traffic man asked me where Humble, Texas was... my immediate reaction was... there ain't no such place... there's nothing humble about Texas... that's why they pronounce the city name as 'Umble', Texas.

I saw a joke once... a Model A going down the road and the driver saying... the sun has riz and the sun has set and we ain't out of Texas yet.

Two guys on a fishing boat, one Alaskan the other a Texan. They decided to relieve themselves since they were far, far from shore and no one was looking. The Alaskan said, with pride, the water is cold. The Texan replied "deep too".

I'm in San Antonio for another conference next week, can't wait to try and eat dinner on the Riverwalk and listen to 50 renditions, back to back, of "The Yellow Rose of Texas". Yipee

Hey, wait until July 4th when my wife, Mary, will be showing her art on the Riverwalk, under the bridge. Oh yes, and bring your wallet and a nice smile.

When I was working in Houston, I got a call from another forwarding company in Germany asking if I did local deliveries... when I said yes, he gave me an address in El Paso...

He couldn't understand that LAX was 4 miles closer to El Paso than Houston.

"You'd think with all that space they wouldn't mind some beans in their chili." Beans in my chili? Sacrilege. Even though 5 ways are pretty darn good.

I don't mind eating beans "on" my chili (and I too rather fancied the 5 way), but they just don't belong in it. However, back when the kids were young and we were struggling, LOML would add beans as a filler so we could feed the family of 7 with one lb of meat. She'd also add rice to our taco meat to extend it. Thankfully we haven't had to suffer either of those for many years now.

And the third liar said "gravel on the bottom sure is rough!"

In Texas, it's against the law for anyone to have a pair of pliers in his or her possession.

In Texas, it is still a "hanging offense" to steal cattle.

God I am TEXAN and love it.

Ain't had a lot of Texas experience. Rode thru on a motorcycle coupla times (at a 45 degree angle coming out of Amarillo), and a week in Austin at a conference. When a waiter asked me if I wanted chili, I said "green," and he looked at me like I wuz an alien. Still, the barbeque at Stubbs was pretty good.

After driving through Texas quite a bit, I realized three things:
1) It's Big.
2) It's Dusty &
3) God ain't finished building it yet.

Heard they came out with a Texas Brand Toilet Paper, but had to take it off the market. It wouldn't take crap off anybody.

Two University of Texas Students, Billy Joe and Jim Bob, ran into each other walking down the street. Billy Joe had a sack over his shoulder.

Jim Bob asked, "Hey Billy Joe, watcha got in that sack?"

Billy Joe said, "I got me some CHICKENS."

Jim Bob said, "Hey Billy Joe, if I can guess how many chickens you got in that sack, can I have one of them?

Billy Joe replied, "Heck Jim Bob, if you can guess how many chickens I got in this sack, I'll give you BOTH of them."

Jim Bob pondered and said, "Okay, FIVE!"

Q: Why doesn't the Univeristy of Texas have its Sex Ed and Driver's Ed classes at the same time?

A: They only have one mule.

Why are Texas A&M Engineering majors required to take two years of biology classes and two years of geology classes before they graduated????

Answer: So they can said that they honestly DO know the difference between their a$$ and a hole in the ground.
